The title "Senior Quantity Surveyor" is often the glass ceiling in many Construction & Civils businesses… but not this one.
Our client is an ambitious meritocracy with a strategic plan to double in size. You’ll take ownership of the commercial management, estimating and administration of key contracts. You’ll have been there and done it. You’re highly organised & instinctively know what stage your contracts are at and what is required of you. You’ll have the experience & confidence to make key decisions and lead from the front.
About you
It’s a strategic & hands on role where you will be part of the senior team that will help deliver the growth strategy for the business.
Reporting into the Managing Director, you will have a seat at the table when it comes to decision making and you’ll get long-term progression that can often be quite difficult to achieve in other businesses.
You will be involved in all stages from estimating & bids, through to completion of each project.
What you’ll need:
- HND/HNC or degree in either Quantity Surveying, Construction Engineering & Management, Civil Engineering or another construction related field
- Strong civils/utilities experience - Quantity Surveying & Estimating
- Motivated, driven and experience in working in a fast growing business
- A strong site presence
- An ability to manage your own diary so that you are where you need to be, when you need to be.
- Passionate about the job, business and the role.
- 5 + years experience.
Duties
- Management of commercial and contractual aspects of current/new projects.
- Attend pre-start meetings, liaise with relevant construction professionals, and ensure timely completion of agreed actions.
- Compile and issue invitations to tender, analyse subcontractor quotations and make recommendations for placement of orders including issuing of same once approved.
- Assess subcontractor payment applications and process payments.
- Check project costs are correct and raise/resolve queries where necessary.
- Produce and maintain up to date procurement schedules.
- Visit site to measure and value works completed.
- Measure, price, negotiate and agree budgets and costs for variations to project scope.
- Carry out reconciliation of cost and value to date/forecast to keep the management team informed of project performance monthly.
- Work closely with Head Office and site management staff to support the smooth running of the business, carrying out other duties as required.
- Assist in the guidance and development of junior surveyors, with potential progression to be the Head of Department.
- Other commercial matters as required.
- Identify and procure tender packages suitable for the business and present to the Management Team.
- Hold a broad knowledge of current market rates, being comfortable to tender for new opportunities.
