Senior Quantity Surveyor

Location : United Kingdom

Salary : £52,100 - £73,272

Your new role: Senior Quantity Surveyor

We are expanding our commercial management team to support National Highways’ annual £1bn investment programme to maintain the Strategic Road Network.  As part of this, we have exciting opportunities for Senior Quantity Surveyors to join our team.

You will lead a team of quantify surveyors and have responsibility for the end-to-end commercial and contract management of a complex programme of schemes, each of which are valued from £1m to more than £30m.  The nature and diversity of the programme ensures you will have opportunity to enhance your leadership and stakeholder management skills, together with your ability to successfully deploy your commercial skills, capabilities and experience in a complex delivery environment.

We have roles in all of our delivery regions: the East, Midlands, North West, South East, South West and Yorkshire & North East.  In all cases we have a flexible hybrid working approach, meaning the role will be a combination of office/agile home working.

What you’ll be leading on

  • Lead on the commercial and contract management of all schemes, ensuring that all works are managed in line with the contract and all contractual matters are responded within the contractual timescales.
  • Line management responsibility
  • Providing mentoring, training and coaching in support of team and individual development.  Support those pursuing professional qualifications (e.g. MRICS) as may be applicable.
  • Oversee supply chain management including enquiry documentation, quotation assessment, works order award and instructions to supply chain where required.  Ensure Supply Chain Payment assessment including all relevant documentation on a monthly basis.
  • Ensure Scheme Cost and value reconciliation is performed to ensure correct cost capture has occurred across all contracts. Assist with preparation of scheme forecasts and associated risk profile.
  • Management of site level change management including Early Warning and Compensation Event management and production, both to the Client and to the supply chain as necessary.
  • Act as first line escalation for contract and/or commercial differences.
  • Attendance and involvement in scheme buildability meetings and planning sessions with Operations and drive improvements in managing costs throughout the lifecycle of a scheme.

To be successful you’ll need

  • Degree/HND in Quantity Surveying or other relevant technical qualification and/or completion of a formally recognised graduate programme, apprenticeship or similar.  This requirement may be waived for those who have secured a relevant professional qualification (as below) through an experience-based route.
  • A relevant professional qualification at Chartered/Member status e.g. MRICS, MICE, or equivalent.   In the absence of this, you must be able to demonstrate a minimum of 10 years direct experience working as a graduate Quantity Surveyor.
  • Demonstrable experience of contract administration, ideally in a portfolio/programme setting and desirably using NEC forms of contract.
  • Demonstrable post-qualification experience within a Quantity Surveying/ Commercial function with evidence of providing expert advice and support on complex commercial matters, preferably in a civil engineering/infrastructure environment for either the client or contractor.
  • Demonstrable stakeholder management experience, with an ability to engage, prioritise and collaborate as an intelligent and effective customer
  • Line management and mentoring experience preferable.
