Job Introduction

 

Main Responsibility

As a Senior Recycling Officer you will be:

  • able to effectively lead and motivate a team to help maximise the quality and number of materials separated for recycling.
  • plan and organise the activities on site, organise staff responsibilities and be the face of Staffordshire County Council to on site visitors and, where required, deputise for the Area Supervisor.
  • a great communicator and be able to demonstrate a positive and encouraging leadership approach.
  • have experience using IT systems and be confident using Microsoft office software

Your day-to-day duties will vary, and may include the following.

  • Helping the public use the site in a safe manner, adhering to all Health and Safety guidance.
  • Being the accountable fire marshal and first aid trained responder on site.
  • Providing friendly, informative and professional customer service.
  • Protecting yourself and your team by promoting high standards of health and safety.
  • Safely operating equipment and machinery and reporting any faults and issues.
  • Working with commercial traders, providing advice and handling payments.
  • Reporting unauthorised waste depositing and promoting environmental sustainability.
  • Supporting other HWRC teams as part of the Staffordshire HWRC Network. (This role will be based at Lichfield HWRC)

The Ideal Candidate

  • A Certificate of technical competence in Hazardous Waste Transfer (Ideal, Not essential to role)
  • Strong Team leader
  • Working knowledge of health and safety legislation and operations
  • Flexible approach to duties, willing to learn and be trained
  • Good verbal and written communication skills – to facilitate inductions, training and communication with site staff, management, clients, contractors and the public
  • Strong numerical and literacy skills and paperwork and recording skills
  • An understanding of recycling and recyclable materials is an advantage
  • Trained First Aider, or willing and capable of being trained
  • A Full UK driving licence
  • Experience in operating a above 10ton 360 wheeled excavator. ( or willing to learn)
  • Experience in the operation of Household waste recycling centres (HWRC'S)
