The postholder, along with other Senior Registry Officers in the Section, is responsible for supporting the Head of Section in the management and leadership of the Student, Course & Schools Administration Section. They will also deputise for the Head of Section in their absence.

The postholder will act as a ‘Business Partner’ to their allocated School for the Academic Registry, engaging with the School closely and ensuring both the needs and requirements of the School are understood within the Registry, and that the needs and requirements of the Registry are understood in the School.

The postholder will develop and deliver a wide range of complex administrative duties providing support for Academic Schools and Partners in relation to the learner experience and the delivery of programmes.

They liaise with a range of colleagues and stakeholders, including Academic Schools, Partners, and support Directorates to administer quality assurance and learner support activities for BNU. They also identify and attend to training needs of key stakeholders to ensure understanding of - and compliance with regulations and other requirements.

The postholder will develop expertise in academic administration for BNU and will manage a team of Registry Officers/Administrators to co-ordinate, deliver and continually enhance associated programme delivery processes for our learners.

Responsible for: Line Management responsibility for the following posts:

Job Purpose:
The postholder, along with other Senior Registry Officers in the Section, is responsible for supporting the Head of Section in the management and leadership of the Student, Course & Schools Administration Section. They will also deputise for the Head of Section in their absence.

Main Duties & Responsibilities of the role:
1. Support the Head of Section in the management and leadership of the Student, Course & Schools Administration Section, deputising for the Head of Section when necessary, delivering against medium to long-term objectives of the Team.
2. For the allocated Academic School(s), act as a ‘Business Partner’ engaging with the School(s) closely and ensuring both the needs and requirements of Schools are understood within the Registry, and that the needs and requirements of the Registry are understood in Schools. Additionally, in doing so manage the planning, implementation and evaluation of student and academic administration to support the efficient, consistent and timely delivery of administration in accordance with planned schedule and deadlines.
3. Identify changes and trends within the student and academic administration remit, and recommend appropriate course(s) of action. Gather and critically evaluate information to support decisions making, and respond appropriately to unusual or unforeseen problems.
4. To take responsibility for the creation, development and implementation of processes to support our provision, liaising with relevant teams across the University as required. To review and enhance processes as required to ensure continuous improvement.
5. To provide authoritative and specialist guidance and advice to academics, PSEs and learners on student and academic administration matters and the implementation of University regulations, policies and processes. Respond appropriately to unusual or unforeseen problems.
6. Alongside School representatives, to liaise with Schools and Directorates over the timely production of delivery schedules and monitor adherence to agreed timescales and deadlines.
7. Act as a point of escalation for Registry Officers (Student, Course & Schools Administration) on complex or challenging queries or matters, demonstrating knowledge of appropriate systems, policies, regulations or legislation.
8. To be responsible for ensuring the implementation of key workstreams, including the following (plus others as appropriate):
  • student enrolment process (in liaison with the Student Records, Data & Fees/Funding Section);
  • accreditation of prior learning;
  • provision of academic information to students;
  • assessment-related administration, including TCAs and examinations;
  • assessment and progression board arrangements;
  • provision of results to students, including reassessment notifications;
  • mitigating circumstances;
  • academic misconduct;
  • academic appeals;
  • complaints and disciplinaries;
  • fitness to practise as appropriate.

9. Line management responsibilities including recruitment and selection, performance management, professional development, motivation, health & safety and wellbeing.
10. Supervisory duties including motivating and supporting team members, giving direction and feedback and ensuring adequate staffing cover. Plan and co-ordinate the work of consultants or contractors as required.
11. Additionally, the post holder will be expected to support the wider activities of the Academic Registry and University, including:
  • Representing the Academic Registry on committees / panels / working groups as required, and leading small projects as appropriate;
  • Acting as the Academic Registry representative for Boards of Examiners, advising on implementation of the University's regulations for progression and award boards;
  • Undertaking the role of investigating officer in matters of learner and staff conduct and/or complaints as required;
  • Being actively engaged with sector groups and proactively proposing and implementing change within the University based on the best practice and external intelligence gained;
  • Assisting with Registry-wide events, such as the University's Graduation Ceremonies and Enrolment/Registration etc, undertaking specific tasks as required;
  • Adopting and demonstrating behaviours aligned to the University's values;
  • There may be a requirement for these duties to be carried out across different sites within the University, and for visits to Partner locations.

12. Comply with relevant legislative and other requirements (e.g., the Data Protection Act 2018 and GDPR; Health and Safety; UKVI; and Equality and Diversity) in all working practices.
13. Such other duties temporarily or on a continuing basis, as may reasonably be required.
