Senior Sailing Instructor

GLL is looking for a Senior sailing Instructor to work at Windermere Outdoor Adventure Centre. If you have the skills and ambition to join us as a Senior sailing Instructor, there's never been a more exciting time to join us. This is more than a Sailing Instructor job, it's a career.

At Windermere Outdoors we are looking for an experienced Senior Sailing instructor to join us for the 2024 season. The role is up to 39 hours a week, starting in March till the end of October 2024 (with the prospect of more hours at busy times). It is an exciting time to be joining our staffing, as we are developing new and exciting courses for both adults and children, hoping to get more and more people onto the water. As the Senior Sailing Instructor you would be working alongside the centre lead to develop and deliver adult and children’s programs along with excellent customer service, empowering people to get out on the lake in as many fun and exciting ways as possible, whether through Hire or Skills courses. As a senior Instructor it is essential that you have the qualifications, skills and experience to operate alone on the lake with a group. We will offer you a fun and exciting job, with a friendly team who are able to have as much fun on and off the water. What you’ll do:

  • To deliver and plan fun activity sessions to children and adults on Lake Windermere in the scope of your awards and training.

  • To take an active lead in the boat hire team, offering a high level of customer service.

  • To work as a team to maintain a high standard of operation in accordance with operational procedures, Health and safety NGBs and AALA.

To be responsible for the care and maintenance of the sailing fleet.

To review, develop and take a lead in the operations of all sailing activities.

  • To develop and maintain good relations with Centre customers, offering advice and assistance to individuals and groups in the use of Centre facilities and activities.

  • Cleaning all areas including toilets and changing rooms daily, and cleaning the Lodge for customers.

  • As part of the team maintain equipment and facilities in safe and proper condition, carrying out and recording regular checks, effecting minor repairs where possible or arranging removal from use and notification of senior staff.

  • To attend regular staff training sessions and mentoring, As well as keeping you own personal CPD up to date.

  • Occasional work at Glebe Park, including maintenance and compliance of the centre.

  • Such other duties as may reasonably be requested. Staff flexibility is a feature of the Centre and in addition to the main duties and responsibilities outlined, the post holder will be expected to perform duties of a more general nature to achieve successful operation of the Centre.

What you need:

ESSENTIAL

The post holder will be required to hold and maintain the following qualifications:

  • RYA Senior Sailing Instructor
  • Current First Aid Certificate
  • At least a season working teaching in a watersports environment (either at club or at a centre level)
  • Evidence of current up to date CPD
  • A positive, friendly can-do attitude is essential. There will be many jobs that involve thinking out of the box! 

DESIRABLE:

Desired Qualifications include:

  • British Canoeing Paddlesport Leader (Or equivalent)
  • Bushcraft experience
