Senior Scientist - Molecular Virologist Sussex, England Permanent £ Competitive salary and benefits SRG are currently working very closely with a unique, growing biotechnology company committed to developing next generation vaccines with novel methods of delivery. Their ground-breaking technology is aimed at producing self-administered, thermally stable vaccines that can be widely distributed by mail. Due to continued expansion, they are looking to bring onboard a Senior Molecular Virologist who will be working with a small team of research scientists in a discovery setting. This is a very exciting opportunity to join an innovative biotechnology company and work with highly specialised, knowledgeable scientists at the forefront of discovery science. Key responsibilities: Conduct experimental work aimed at growing and purifying viral vectors using a variety of mammalian tissue culture and virus purification techniques Investigate viral attributes and characterise wild-type viruses, both in vitro and in vivo, using a variety of virology techniques Develop novel bioassays aimed at testing the biological, immunological, and biochemical attributes of vaccine candidates Troubleshoot new assays and techniques, as needed Investigate host pathogen interactions and the immune mechanisms of protection induced by vaccines, using molecular virology research techniques Maintain awareness of developments in the field and be pro-active at introducing new techniques and capabilities into the team and wider organisation Prepare written reports and present data for audiences inside and outside the company Contribute to Analytical and Preclinical sections of CTA/IND submissions, Investigator Brochures, IMPDs, briefing packages for regulatory meetings Key skills and experience: PhD in Virology, Microbiology, or related discipline and 2 years' postdoctoral experience, or equivalent industrial experience. Strong understanding of viruses and viral infection. Experience working with animal/human viruses is essential. Excellent understanding of laboratory techniques for handling and working with viruses (including expansion in cell culture), acquired through working with pathogens or genetically modified viral vectors. Proven experience in developing assays in relevant virological, molecular, and serological techniques (i.e. virus propagation and titration, RT-qPCR, ELISA, serum neutralisation assays). Proven experience working with viruses in the areas of gene therapy, vaccine or anti-viral product development is desirable. It is desirable to have experience in the propagation and purification of viruses in the context of product development. Be an independent, creative, and highly skilful independent laboratory worker.
