Job description

Horizon Academy Trust are expanding their premises team and are looking to appoint a well-organised and hardworking Senior Site Facilities Officer to be based at Bilton Primary School.AboutThe Senior Site Facilities Officer plays a key role in school. You will work closely with other Facilities Officers, the School Business Manager and Headteacher to manage the security of the buildings, and will also take a proactive role in the maintenance and management of the school site.
This role would be perfect for someone who would like to begin, retain or further develop a career in facilities management. The role is 37 hours per week between the hours of 6am and 6pm (hours to be agreed). There may also be a requirement to work overtime on a weekend and in the evening where overtime would be payable.
You will work with the School Leadership Team and the Central Operations Team to ensure that the school complies with all requirements of health and safety, risk management, and statutory testing. You will also liaise with contractors and external agencies regarding the completion of both planned and reactive maintenance.
A qualification in Health and Safety would be an advantage but training can be provided if not currently held.Purpose of the roleEnsures the safe and secure custody of the building site and location, monitors the effective provision of utilities and support services and undertakes maintenance and repair.ResponsibilitiesTo promote and safeguard the welfare of children and young people.
Ensures that the site and premises are physically secured on completion of school-related activities.
Undertakes property and site inspections to identify health and safety issues and contribute to risk assessment.
Opens buildings and premises to ensure access prior to the commencement of the school day.
Sets alarms and security devices.
Undertakes emergency cleaning, basic maintenance and repair to maintain the fabric of the building and site services.
Monitors, operates and organises the service and maintenance of site services e.g. heating, water, electricity.
Responds to call-outs and undertakes the necessary activities to ensure the site is safe and secure.
Organises and participates in any inspection to comply with health and safety or other legislation and advise on risk assessment.
Undertake routine grounds maintenance.
Undertakes routine portering duties, i.e. moving furniture.
Undertakes emergency cleaning duties.
Interacts with children to contribute and support the learning process.
Monitors provision of external contractor services and intervene over areas of concern to ensure compliance.
Authorise repairs and contract variations within delegated budget to ensure that a safe secure environment is maintained e.g. lock or glass replacement.
Manages allocated support staff to ensure that school policies are complied with, and objectives and deadlines are achieved and appropriate conditions of service are adhered to.
Determines priorities, plans, allocate and monitors work.
Determines attendance and authorises staff absence.
The Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 and associated legislation places responsibilities for health and safety on the school, as your employer and you as an employee. In addition to the employer’s overall duties, the post holder has personal responsibility for their own health and safety and that of other employees; additional and more specific responsibilities are identified in the schools Health and Safety policy.GeneralThe above principal accountabilities are not exhaustive and may vary without changing the character of the job or level of responsibility. The postholder must be flexible to ensure the operational needs of the school are met. This includes the undertaking of duties of a similar nature and responsibility as and when required, throughout the various work places in the Trust.
