Senior Software Engineer

Salary £60k to £65k Depending on experience level

Hybrid working is an option - Office based in Melksham with visits to the Poole office.

My prestigious electronic engineering client works with Military Forces across the globe supplying state-of-the-art electronically controlled equipment.

Due to growth and the development of next generation products, a permanent position is available for an experienced Senior Software Engineer to join their diverse and multi skilled team of engineers and technicians.

The Senior Software Engineer will be highly skilled in software development using C and C++, and various IDEs which include Visual Studio and MPLAB. The role will primarily be responsible for design, development, and verification of software aspects of the company’s products, particularly systems related products, preferably with experience of modern processors/SoC in the automotive or medical sectors with a focus on embedded, low power and safety related aspects.

The position will also be responsible for continuous improvement of the Software Engineering process and its wider proliferation, and will support system analysis, modelling, development, assembly, testing, qualification, reliability improvement and planning required for the successful demonstration of a fully operational system.

Main responsibilities include:

Software development:

o Software authoring across C and C++

o Functionality and GUI design

o Configuration and version control

o Continuous improvement within coding standards and development processes

o Software release

o (Software) validation and verification

o Software maintenance and customer support

Process Engineering:

o Process flow development

o Best practices generation

o Coding standards development

o FMECA approach development

The role also includes:

• Design and deliver new products on-time, to cost and to specification
• Generate innovative design concepts for review and evaluation
• Lead the timely development of selected concepts from prototype to final production
• Work in accordance with design procedures
• Analyse and test components to demonstrate fitness for purpose and produce test reports
• To assist with the generation of project plans and the relevant costings
• To assist with generation of risk and failure mode analysis and configuration control
• To assist in the development of new business opportunities
• To represent the company in a professional manner both internally and externally
• Carry out research and development of new products and techniques to benefit; efficiency, quality, testability, safety
• Liaise with other engineering disciplines and internal customers to establish and agree product specifications
• Liaise with external customers and suppliers and represent the company at meetings
• Maintain up to date knowledge of latest Software Engineering processes

Essential Experience:

• Competency and recent experience in software programming, specifically C and C++, various IDEs include Visual Studio and MPLAB
• Full software product lifecycle including design
• Software version and configuration control
• Software verification and validation including unit testing and practical experience in a laboratory setting, including software and hardware integration
• Leadership in design and design review processes
• Process and project documentation skills
• Ability to travel locally to support UK engineering and operations teams as required
• Capable of working in a team and undertaking multiple projects.
• Able to manage and deliver own work.
• Good written and oral communication skills.
• Fully computer literate

Desirable:

• Good understanding of embedded software development for functional safety related applications.
• Knowledge of respiratory or life support systems
• Knowledge of marine or underwater systems.
• Practical engineering skills.
• Capable of generating project plans and costings
• Software design with modelling and interaction with System Engineer models (MBSE, UML/ SysML)
