Post Title: Senior Student Support Advisor (Equality, Diversity, Inclusion, Sexual Violence and
Safeguarding)
SBU/Department: Dean of Students
FTE: 1.0 fte (working 37 hours per week)
Duration of Contract: Permanent
Salary: UH7 £37,099 pa to £40,521pa with potential to progress to £44,263 by annual increments on achieving designated skills and experience
Annual Leave: 30 days plus standard public holidays and an additional 4 days including the closure of our office between Christmas and New Year
Location: College Lane Campus
The Office of the Dean of Students is responsible for providing support for the student community, educational engagement, and community partnerships, and are committed to our role in student success. Our teams cover a range of responsibilities including community partnership, student procedures, Student Support and welfare, student wellbeing, chaplaincy, and day nursery.
Main duties and responsibilities
As Senior Student Support Advisor you will have a clear vision and strategy for the work of the service, and lead and manage the team providing specialist support services and ensure service delivery on projects, training, and events to both students and staff.
You will develop and maintain positive links through effective communication with internal and external stakeholders and deliver and coordinate a calendar of diversity and student wellbeing events. This will include working with Marketing & Communications and the University’s Student Union on EDI related communications.
You will lead on support to study processes for students who may be adversely affected by harassment, discrimination, victimisation, or sexual assault.
Skills and experience required
In this role you will require excellent interpersonal and communications skills and the ability to maintain personal and professional boundaries whilst working with staff, students and external stakeholders. You will have substantial proven and demonstrable experience of providing specialist sexual violence/harassment advice and support, and working in an equality and diversity role, with understanding of equality legislation, safeguarding, legal responsibilities, and the criminal justice systems response to sexual assault, discrimination, domestic abuse and harassment. You will also require a history of successful project management from initiation, promotion to completion, with good outcomes. You will have expert-user IT skills and be able to demonstrate designing and delivering training and presentations and undertake data analysis and report on trends and make recommendations.
Qualifications required
A minimum of a Degree (or equivalent level 6 or higher qualification) or significant proven experience in relevant field, accredited ISVA (Independent Sexual Violence Advisor) qualification, accredited IDVA (Independent Domestic Violence Advisor) qualification, professional or academic qualifications or significant knowledge and skills relevant to the role e.g. PGC in Coaching, advice/counselling training, research techniques, data analysis, marketing or events management
