(Senior) Surface Chemist

Role Overview Quantum Science (QS) is seeking a (Senior) Surface Chemist to join our R&D team based in Daresbury, UK. The (Senior) Surface Chemist will play a pivotal role in surface modification and functionalisation of colloidal quantum dots and other advanced nanomaterials for optoelectronic applications. Main tasks and responsibility Plan experimental strategies and conduct the research in surface modification and functionalisation of colloidal quantum dots and other nanomaterials to make them compatible with the host matrix and/or enhance their performance as required. Develop colloidal quantum dots inks for optoelectronic applications. Conduct routine characterisation of nanomaterials. Analyse and interpret data and suggest solutions to improve target properties. Provide guidance and technical support to other team members. Prepare progress technical reports, invention disclosure and patents in a clear and concise and timely manner. Skills and Experience A PhD in chemistry, material science or equivalent degree with proven research record in Surface Chemistry and interfaces science. Preferred independent post-doc or research fellow or relevant industrial experience for the senior role. Have deep understanding of semiconductor nanomaterials. Extensive practical laboratory experience and research in surface modification and functionalisation of semiconductor nanocrystals including solution ligand exchange and surface passivation/doping. Demonstrate creative and innovative to generate and implement ideas. Ability to plan, prioritise and address forthcoming issues. Strong organisation and influencing skills to effectively work with inter-disciplinary and cross-functional teams within QS or of external partners to achieve project goals. Excellent verbal and written communication skills including IT literacy (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint). KPI’s: Achieving project milestones Reporting results to Team Leader in a timely manner All invention disclosures/ patents filed in a timely manner. All samples are sent to other teams and customers in a timely manner. Identify needed equipment and carry out procurement if necessary.
