Role Overview
As a Senior Test Engineer, with experience in online learning, your role as part of the web team is to help deliver new interactive experiences for learners. Whether that’s directing them to the right content based on how they’ve performed in quizzes, or building new content experiences that specifically target our younger audience.
It is an exciting time to join the team as we are nearing completion of a large migration project to move to a shared Webcore and starting to work on new features to make the experience even more engaging. This service is quite unique, even within the business, which means that we get to work on a variety of interesting technologies to solve our problems.
We’re looking for passionate Senior Test Engineer to join our fast-paced cross-discipline agile teams iterating on our key products. It’s important that you can collaborate as part of a multidisciplinary team and can coach and mentor junior team members.
The successful individual will have experience of owning automation projects alongside feature work, have examples where they have had to problem solve and think creatively or innovatively, as well as have strong organisational skills to effectively manage their workload and priorities.
Essential Skills
- JavaScript, Cypress, Web vitals, Lighthouse, AWS
- At least one year of testing experience on a public-facing website
- Ability to determine which tests should be automated and write automation code
- Understanding of continuous integration and deployment methodologies as well as CI/CD tools like Jenkins
- Agile team experience
- Risk based and exploratory testing
- Pairing and code reviews
- Analytical Skills
- The ability to communicate efficiently verbally or in writing
- Working across multi-discipline teams
Desirable Skills
- Creating cypress tests
- Mobile app testing experience
- Experience of cloud-based environments, especially AWS
- Browser performance testing using Web vitals, Lighthouse and other tools.
- Experience working within a multi-site team or department
- Experience of writing unit tests
- Experience of accessibility testing
- Basic Test Lead experience i.e. mentoring Junior Testers
Experience
- A degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field or similar work based experience.
- Proven experience as a Tester with a focus on online education/learning – related projects.
- Very good working knowledge of standard software testing frameworks, techniques and methodologies.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team, contributing to the development of business scenarios.
- Knowledge of software development tools and technologies
- Experience of planning, executing functional, systems and regression tests
- Experience applying an analytical and detail-orientated approach to problem solving
- and solution design
- Experience with leading defect triage meetings with other disciplines
- Knowledge of troubleshooting– finding critical bugs or verifying reported issues, identifying their underlying cause, and seeing them through to resolution liaising with other teams where appropriate
- Good written and spoken communications skills
- Knowledge of test automation and its value within agile delivery
- Working knowledge of product/defect/test case management systems
- Good understanding of usability and accessibility of applications and products
