Senior Transport Manager - Container Haulage
Overview:
A leading Container Freight business is currently looking to appoint a Senior Transport Manager to oversee and manage transport operations across the business.
The role will have a particular focus on developing the UK network. You will need a thorough understanding of modern transport systems and strong leadership qualities along with the credibility and gravitas necessary to engage with a team, needed to support the transport function.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee all aspects of transportation operations across their sites.
- Setting the strategy for Transport, driving cost, safety and compliance across the operation.
- Looking at fleet size strategy, maximising current assets and looking for opportunities to grow the fleet and transport commercial operations.
- You will be responsible for carrier management.
- Manage an existing fleet of 150+ trucks, ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations and standards.
- Lead and motivate a team of transport professionals, providing guidance, strategic direction, and support.
- Collaborate with other departments to ensure seamless coordination of logistics operations.
- Monitor and analyse transport metrics to identify areas for improvement and implement process improvements.
- Foster a culture of safety and compliance within the transport team, promoting best practices and ensuring adherence to all regulations.
- Develop and maintain strong working relationships with the third-party transport companies.
- Monitor contract compliance and enforce service level agreements.
- Negotiate contract terms and conditions to optimise cost and service levels.
- Develop and manage the Transport Budget.
- Identify cost-saving opportunities and implement strategies to achieve financial targets.
Person Specification:
- Experienced in Container transport operational leadership.
- Proven track record of successfully managing transport teams and operations.
- Previous experience managing large fleets is preferred.
- Proven pedigree in re-designing and growing transport networks.
- Strong commercial acumen is essential.
- Used to conducting fleet evaluation processes and re-strategisation.
- Strong knowledge of transport regulations and compliance requirements.
- Excellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire teams.
- Highly organised with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- CPC qualified.
