Job description

We're looking for a Senior Visitor Experience Officer to join our team. You'll be engaging with our visitors with inspiring programming and events to showcase the history of our tower and its collections, along with wildlife that calls Tattershall Castle it's home.

Reporting into the Property Operations Manager, you'll lead for excellent site presentation standards, plan and deliver programming and events. Your peers will be other members of the Property Leadership Team, as department specialists who lead for fundraising, conservation and land, outdoor and nature.

Tattershall Castle has been in the care of the National Trust for 100 years in 2025 and welcomes over 50,000 visitors each year. Tattershall Castle is a magnificent medieval tower proudly rising from the flat Lincolnshire fens; a survivor of conflict, decay and restoration.

The property consists of a Scheduled Monument and Scheduled area, listed buildings, parkland, workspace for property-based colleagues, two holiday lets, visitor reception with a small food and beverage offer, and second hand book shop.

You'll work with the Property Operations Manager and Welcome Manager to ensure every aspect of the Visitor Experience is shaped by history and nature to deliver an exceptional experience to everyone every time. That involves delivering the program of events, with something new each season for our regular visitors and locals, as well as ongoing events to inspire our occasional visitors.

With our inspiring landscapes and centuries of history, there’s everything here to fire your imagination, to create events and deliver outstanding interpretation. You’ll work with the house team to understand our spirit of place, ensuring high standards of presentation and service as part of the Visitor Experience team.

This job is all about providing a service. To be fantastic in this role, you’ll need;

  • experience of delivering inspirational engagement activities
  • have good people skills, enabling good working relationships with those in your team and across the property
  • an understanding of how to interpret significant collections to varied audiences
  • excellent organisational skills, and the ability to time manage projects successfully
  • have good interpersonal skills, able to deal with visitors in a variety of situations
  • have a flexible customer focused approach with experience in delivering high standards of customer service
  • experience of working with and supervising volunteers
