Job description

Student Services / Wellbeing Service  The William Brake Student Services department is an award-winning team which consists of Careers, Volunteering, Placements and Employment, Student Welfare, Wellbeing & Student Advice & Immigration. We provide a holistic approach to student support to ensure students’ individual needs are fully met to enhance their academic success, aid student experience and develop each student as an individual. The Wellbeing team is a busy and in-demand service.  The Post We are looking to appoint a Senior Disability Adviser on a 1 year – fixed term maternity cover contract. This position is offered Full Time, however 0.8FTE will also be considered.  The Role This is a key role within the Student Services Department to support and contribute to a professional and specialist advice and guidance service to support disabled students to access their studies successfully and encourage academic progress and student retention. The post holder is responsible for collaboratively working with the Senior Mental Health Adviser to lead on the development and management of an effective and pro-active Disability and Mental Health Team. The team provides advice, information, support and guidance to all disabled students and applicant, as well as provide Individual Support Plans which provide advise on reasonable adjustments. The role requires close working with stakeholders across the University to ensure facilities are accessible and advise on best practice in inclusive learning and teaching, to ensure legal and contractual obligations under the Equality Act 2010. The role also has line management responsibilities for a team of Disability Advisers and is required to work closely with other Seniors within the Wellbeing Team to deliver and lead on training, reports and other events/projects across the academic year The Person The successful candidate will have either specialist level qualifications relating to the field of Disability or significant experience working with disabled students in a Higher Education setting, with clear evidence of CPD and extensive knowledge of relevant legislation (e.g. Equality Act 2010). They will have significant knowledge and experience of the full range of support, funding, and reasonable adjustments available to students and extensive working knowledge of a range of SpLDs, disabilities and mental health conditions. They will have excellent interpersonal, communication and problem-solving skills and be self-motivated, with a flexible approach. They will have experience of managing a team of staff in a high-pressured environment and be able to work with other Senior managers.
