We are looking for candidates for the position of Sensory Panel Technician. Our Sensory panel Technician will be responsible for supporting the setup and management of the operational testing of the R&D Sensory & Consumer insights function.
This role will be reporting directly to Sensory & Consumer Insights Manager. If you have passion for hot and cold beverages, food-related education and some experience with Sensory Panel leading this could be a perfect job opportunity for you.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and ensure the optimum working of sensory facilities (booths, labs, computers/software, databases etc.) and to organize and manage the purchase and supply of stock and materials needed for the sensory testing activities.
- Support all sensory testing including test set up requirements and sample preparation according to the test, test design and project objective.
- Co-ordinating all daily panel activities (Descriptive Profiling, discrimination assessment, shelf life tests) from collation and preparation of test samples through to practical execution.
- Support the Sensory screening programme and manage the setup and execution of internal panel screening.
- Work closely with the R&D Ingredients team and be the key support for any ad hoc sensory related activities and support for ingredient projects (sample collation, sample preparation, sample despatch).
- Acting as panel leader, leading panel discussions to develop appropriate vocabulary and training of internal panellists. Co-ordination of attribute reference samples and development of attribute references in product contexts to support training.
- Maintaining the sensory and development facilities ensuring food safety and hygiene best practise within the lab and working environment. Manage sample traceability, stock rotation and be point of contact for laboratory traceability audits.
- Support Sensory & Consumer Insights activities as required.
Knowledge/Experience
- Good ability to follow written and verbal instructions with minimal supervision;
- Good communication skills, and confidence to give instructions to panellists;
- Confident at computer skills (Excel, Word & Power Point);
- A background in Sensory Science, Food Science or related discipline, experience of leading a Sensory Panel would be desirable.
- Excellent planning and organisational skills and flexible approach to manage changing priorities
- Excellent people skills and good communication skills - both written and verbal
- Ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team and team player
- Experience of data-capturing and statistical package (Compusense) would be a bonus
