Job description

You’ll work with people who have significant sight and/or hearing loss to support them to live independently in their own homes.

As a Sensory Services Officer and qualified Rehabilitation Officer of Visual Impairment (ROVI), you’ll be responsible for carrying out holistic assessments of reablement needs and planning reablement interventions to support across a multi-disciplinary team, including delivery of mobility and daily skills training. You’ll use your knowledge and skills in vision and hearing impairment in order to set SMART goals and assist with attaining these. This will include assessing for and issuing sensory equipment, signposting and referring on to other services, as necessary.

Take a look at our Candidate Pack  for more information about the role, team and our values.  The section ‘About you’ explains any specific knowledge, skills and experience we want you to tell us about.  Make sure you explain how you meet these requirements and demonstrate our values, in your application.

As a highly skilled, enthusiastic, and self-motivated Sensory Services Officer, you’ll have excellent communication skills and experience of working in the Visual Impairment sector.  Experience of working with people with a hearing loss would also be desirable but is not essential, as training can be provided. Working in our fast-paced community service, you’ll demonstrate effective assessment and treatment planning skills as well as a strengths-based approach to providing advice and information throughout someone’s reablement journey, allowing them to problem solve and make informed decisions.

We value our staff highly and offer full induction, supervision, performance reviews, CPD opportunities and professional, clinical, managerial and peer support.

For further information please visit our Reablement website. Hampshire County Council also offers a comprehensive suite of management training which is offered alongside a generous benefits package.

Working Patterns

As the Reablement Service operates 7 days a week, you’ll be required to work weekends on a 1:6 rotational basis. We are currently undergoing a transformation process which may impact on this rotation in the future. Our core business hours are 8.30 – 5pm.
Travel Requirements

You’ll need to travel across the area, and it is essential that you have a current drivers’ licence and access to a reliable vehicle on a regular basis.  All travel will be paid from your office base.
