Job Details:

The Serious Game Developer role is a fantastic opportunity to be part of an exciting and innovative team. The Virtual Engineering Centre consists of a high impact multi-disciplinary group of experts, including specialists in computer science, data science, engineering, visualisation and manufacturing technologies, and is underpinned by the University of Liverpool and specialist centres of excellence.

With specialist facilities at the Virtual Engineering Centre (VEC) in Daresbury and the Digital Innovation Facility (DIF) in Liverpool, our talented team help accelerate business growth through digital technology, with the ability to translate client s challenges (whether academic or industrial) into practical workable solutions, at both scale and pace.

You will work on innovation projects supporting SMEs and businesses from a variety of sectors with digital tool and integration challenges, delivering technical support under UKSPF Horizons Programme. You will focus on various aspects spanning Serious Games development, ranging from simple interactive environments, digital twins and virtual reality to visual simulations and meta-city concept implementation.

You will work with other members of the technical development team to build engaging interactive applications, built primarily with Unreal Engine. This could involve the use of skills around software development, VR, AR, Cloud Deployment/Pixel Streaming, user interface design, networking, integrating external data such as point cloud or CAD files and Level Streaming/World Partition. With a good understanding of game engine (Unreal/Unity) techniques, alongside possible other capabilities in 3D design, animation, and/or rendering, you will contribute to the development of 3D experiences. You should have good programming abilities, capable of diagnosing issues and resolving coding related problems.

The role requires good interpersonal and communication skills, bringing energy, enthusiasm and a constant focus on excellence to our work, supporting and motivating colleagues and clientele to enhance their knowledge, skills and practice.

This post is part-funded through the UK Government’s UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF) with the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority as the lead authority.

This post is available until 31 March 2026.
