Young People and Families
Our Young People and Families hub provides early intervention, targeted and specialist support services to those in crisis, leaving care, missing from home or with substance misuse or mental health problems. Services support people no matter what their situation - and have demonstrated a high success rate.
Merton Risk and Resilience
Our Merton Risk and Resilience Service is an integrative, specialist service that provides holistic and tailored support to young people, aged 24 and under, to reduce the use of substance misuse. The service provides return home interviews and specialist support to young people who are vulnerable to being sexually exploited. Catch22 Merton Risk and Resilience Service also promote sexual health and positive health choices through early intervention. We also co-ordinate the C-Card scheme - providing free condoms to young people aged 13-24 years.
Job Description
The role of School Counsellor is an excellent opportunity to make a different to young people, at a crucial time in their lives. In this role, you will work with several partnership agencies across Merton, to offer structured counselling services, via schools.
Our Young People's Health (YPH) service is for young people aged 11 to 18 years. We aim to provide structured psychological interventions to young people who are using drugs and/or alcohol in order to manage their difficulties, as well as to support young people who are suffering from emotional difficulties below the Child and adolescent mental health services (CAMHS) threshold.
We want to enable our young people to make informed choices and to help them move towards better emotional health, as well as enabling them to engage with life in a more positive manner. By offering a safe and non-judgmental arena, young people are able to explore, share and work on their worries and concerns with a professional therapist, and be better placed to move into improved psychological health.
Main Duties and Accountabilities:
Providing structured counselling services on behalf of Catch 22, in accordance with the service contract, professional ethics, national standards, and guidelines.
Ensuring that all aspects of service delivery demonstrate consistently high standards.
Keeping up to date on local and national developments which are pertinent to the treatment service, supporting the service in the review and development of treatment services across a range of schools.
Ensuring timely and correct record keeping; maintaining and submitting monthly statistical data such as client information to the service, in the correct formats.
Promoting Catch22 services in schools, assisting in the production and distribution of information, advice, and publicity materials.
Attending monthly group/one to one supervision and appropriate training.

Qualifications
We are looking for applicants who can demonstrate the following qualifications, experience, skills and abilities:
Counselling or Psychotherapy diploma/degree.
Knowledge and experience of issues facing young people, particularly in relation to potential family/placement breakdown.
Experience of working eclectically to meet individual needs of young people, with a minimum of two years experience of working with young people within community/school settings.
Good understanding of the impact of hidden harms of parental substance misuse on young people.
An understanding and commitment to equality of opportunity in service delivery, policy and practice.
Ability to communicate effectively, work as part of a team, and actively engage with young people and their families.
Ability to develop and implement qualitative and quantitative monitoring and evaluation.
Additional Information
Salary: £15.00 per hour
Hours of work: Up to 22 hours per week (term-time only)
Contract: Sessional
Access to a car, and a full driving licence, are a requirement of this role.
