Job description

The role of the Sexual Harassment and Violence Advisor will be part of a growing team under the Head of the Harassment and Violence Support Service. The Sexual Harassment and Violence Advisor service provides specialist, impartial advice, emotional and practical support and policy guidance to any student within the collegiate University who has been subjected to any form of sexual violence or intimate partner abuse, recently, or in the past.

The role will involve providing one-to-one support to students. It will also include running workshops for staff from time to time, and offering staff consultation when requested to those across the collegiate University who have pastoral responsibilities for student welfare.

The Sexual Harassment and Violence Advisor will work flexibly and collaboratively with teams across Student Support, including the University Counselling Service and the Mental Health Advice Service. The role will also work with staff across the collegiate University as well as external agencies to develop and enhance the support available to students of the University.

The ideal candidate will have significant experience of working in a service to deliver 1:1 support, advice and guidance to adults who have experienced sexual violence, and will have a demonstrable understanding of the impact of and dynamics surrounding sexual violence. The role holder must possess an accredited Independent Sexual Violence Advisor (ISVA) qualification or be willing to work towards one, and will be well-versed in assessing risk, together with knowledge of relevant legislation and UK legal processes.

Utilising excellent interpersonal and communication skills, the role holder will have a warm and empathic style and an ability to build trust and credibility with students and those staff supporting them. Emotional resilience, establishing clear boundaries and the ability to work calmly under pressure will also be key attributes of the role. This position offers an exciting and challenging opportunity to join a warm, friendly team.

The role is advertised as full time but we welcome applications from individuals who wish to be considered for flexible working arrangements.
