The firm is looking to recruit an Assistant Manager to join the Accounts Support Hub based in Liverpool. This team is one of several Hubs within BDO’s rapidly growing Shared Service Centre (SSC). SSC team members work internally within the business providing support to the client-facing members of the firm.

The Assistant Manager in BDO’s Shared Service Centre will be required to lead and manage a portfolio of work for the Accounts Compliance area; Leading, developing, and managing the team along with supporting projects and tasks in the SSC compliance areas; Also managing stakeholders, building effective relationships, and delivering Quality and service excellence, exceeding the end user expectations are pre-requisites of this role.

This will be a challenging and rewarding role where you will:

  • Support regional client-facing audit teams by preparing statutory accounts from trial balance under FRS 102, FRS 102 Section 1A and FRS 101
  • Work extensively with the CaseWare accounting software and BDO’s workflow tools
  • Work extensively with BDO’s Accounts systems and processes – including driving process improvement and change management
  • Providing Quality technical management support to colleagues
  • Identify trends in quality performance and regularly assess processes for deficiencies
  • Deal with internal queries with colleagues and teams across BDO UK
  • Leading and developing an Accounts Team Quality review function
  • Allocate workloads, quality reviewing and managing the work output of the accounts hub Associates & Assistants to ensure they are delivered to the required time and quality and are within budget and productivity levels in line with agreed Service levels
  • Ensure that the firms’ quality control procedures are adhered to as required
  • Engage with BDO’s regional client-facing teams on operational performance (for example, quality and timeliness metrics and being point of escalation).
  • Driving service improvement & continuous improvements in Quality
  • Engage with BDO’s Local Accounts stream stakeholders potential users and champions in promoting and driving further adoption of service take-up
  • Work extensively with BDO’s systems and processes – including support to process improvement and change management looking at agile working and technology
  • Deal with internal queries with colleagues and teams across BDO UK
  • Provide supervisory support to colleague and supervisors as may be required
  • Assist in the recruitment of additional or replacement Support Hub team members

You'll be someone who is:

  • Educated to degree level with supporting accounting qualification (ACCA /ACA qualified or qualified by experience).
  • Experience of performing or managing accounts work is highly desirable.
  • Experience of Accounts Quality Review process.
  • Ability to demonstrate commercial awareness.
  • IT skills - strong working knowledge of MS Office and similar desktop applications. Experience of workflow management type systems is advantageous.
  • Credible and confident to interact with stakeholders at senior level.
  • Strong people management skills: empathetic and encouraging style to support junior team members to excel in their roles.
  • Excellent time management, organisation, and prioritisation skills. Be able to lead by example and influence optimal performance of team.
  • Ability to use own initiative and take a flexible and agile approach.
