We are looking for someone with engineering and people management experience to join our Engineering team at Heaton TrainCare Centre, in the North East.
Connecting millions of people and communities across the North is our mission. With 2,500 trains a day, we connect people to jobs, friends, family, and the wonders of the North.
We're improving rail travel, enhancing the experience on board and at stations. Customers are at the heart of our business as we improve performance and create a better way to go.
We're driving economic value and sustainable growth for the North and its people. Our commitment to the environment means reducing our impact and enhancing the world around us.
Make a difference. Make it last. Make it yours. Make it easy. Make it happen. These are our values.
Ready to make them yours? Join us on this journey.
About the role:
Join us as a Shift Production Manager and you’ll use your engineering experience and people management expertise to lead, manage and motivate a number of Production and Movement teams at both our TrainCare Centres and Outstations.
Day to day you will be working closely with other Production and Planning Managers at our TrainCare Centres to create and deliver a robust, efficient, and detailed production plan for the fleet allocated to your depot. You’ll make sure it’s closely aligned to other regional plans and workloads, while also ensuring we meet our safety and environmental, performance, people, profit, and customer targets.
If this sounds like your thing, we’d love to hear from you.
Key responsibilities:
This is a varied and challenging role, but here is a taste of what your day-to-day activities could include:
Leading the TrainCare Centre teams on a shift basis to maintain standards and frequencies of scheduled servicing, maintenance and cleaning of Traction and Rolling stock allocated to the TrainCare Centre to repair all defects.
Ensuring technical and safety standards are adhered to on all traction and rolling stock at the TrainCare Centre and that all colleagues are aware of the standards.
Ensuring that all statutory requirements are met with respect to health, safety, and environmental obligations.
Liaising with third party customers to ensure the depot delivers any contractual obligations and you’ll manage any day to day relationships with the TrainCare Centres customers. Working to actively encourage staff to suggest production improvements.
You’ll be working with a fun, enthusiastic team of professionals, who will support you in developing your career and skills.
About you:
You will need to have experience in a similar leadership role, preferably in an engineering and production management role (but not vital), You’ll also need to have excellent communication, teamwork and leadership skills with some experience of people management because this is such a varied and important role.
We’re also looking for the following:
Engineering qualifications to HNC/HND standard or equivalent.
Safety qualification or working towards
Experience of safety, quality and technical product audits and audit techniques.
Our Benefits:
Because we value our people and reward hard work, we’ve created a benefits package that we think you’ll love. So, you’ll be able to make the most of:
Free Travel on Northern services - everyone who works at Northern, plus their partners/spouses and dependents, can travel for free right across our full network of services. *Certain eligibility criteria will apply.
75% discount with other Train Operating Companies - after 2 years with us, you’ll also get discounted travel on many other rail services in the UK and Europe.
Defined Benefit Pension Scheme - you’ll rarely find a pension as good as a Northern pension, and we top up your pension with a generous 1.5 times your contribution.
A generous holiday entitlement - our holiday entitlements can help you feel like you can get away too.
Maternity and Paternity Benefits - we go above and beyond the standard, and mums can enjoy 9 months’ maternity leave on full pay while dads can make the most of 2 weeks’ paternity leave on full pay.
