Project Coordinator for Peer Support and Buddying

Role Summary: We are looking for a person who is committed to supporting people living with HIV. The successful candidate will have a good understanding of the complex support needs of people with HIV and how peer support can be used to support them, as well as project management experience.

Our purpose is to support and empower people living with HIV to lead happy, healthy lives free from stigma and discrimination. Our mission statement is: To empower people living with HIV to take control of their lives by providing them with information, advice, guidance and support to complement their medical treatment.

Roles and responsibilities

·         Maintain confidentiality of clients.

·         Adhere to policies and practices of KPS, complying with charity regulations.

·         Work with the existing KPS Team to plan, develop and deliver a peer support and buddying service within the HIV clinic and wider community.

·         Work with clients and organisational partners to deliver a coordinated programme of support through peer support and/or buddying, that can be opted into, dependent on individual clients’ needs.

·         Arrange exploratory meetings with clients to establish a working relationship and discuss hobbies, interests and support needs. Agree on an activity- action- and outcome-plan. Meet clients in the clinic or an alternative agreed safe setting.

·         Oversee recruitment and selection of volunteers for the project and other roles.

·         Match peer supporters and/or buddies.

·         Engage with and grow the client group at KPS.

·         Engage with volunteers and peer-support-trained contacts in the community.

·         Build partnerships with other volunteer and specific interest groups to expand opportunities for volunteers and clients.

·         Set up and maintain records of progress of the project in relation to recruitment, referral, activity, finance and evaluation.

·         Attend meetings with other voluntary organisations which engage volunteers and peer supporters.

·         Confirm all individuals’ programmes, actions and plans to review progress.

·         Observe, record, monitor and evaluate progress of clients, peer supporters and buddies to confirm or change the methods of the project.

·         Maintain ongoing evaluation of the project.

·         Report on the project to the Board of Trustees. Provide advice to the Board as needed to ensure sound governance of the organisation.

·         Support clients in dealing with housing, employment, welfare benefits and finance through referral and advocacy.

·         Work with other health and support services that can, through agreed referral pathways, provide support to new and existing clients. Provide support for clients to access these services.

·         In the absence of the Charity Worker, take responsibility for the identification, development and delivery of funding bids, record and measure impacts and report back to funders.

·         Represent KPS’s aims and services in the wider context of the health and social care sector, and participate in partnerships, meetings and other forums as relevant.

·         Maintain and further develop local and national partnerships across sectors and community which support the aims and objectives of KPS.

·         Ensure that KPS’s message and values are clear and coherent and delivered through appropriate conduits.
