Job Description
Location: Forrest St Depot, Blantyre
Hours: 35 per week
**Temporary position for 1 year**
South Lanarkshire’s Waste Services has gone through a period of significant change in recent years - we are now able to divert the majority of our residual waste away from landfill; we are recycling more material at the kerbside; and we are focused on ensuring the material we collect is of a sufficient quality to guarantee that it will be used by re processors. However, despite these changes we cannot stand still. The push to a more circular economy, driven by new legislation and ambitious targets means that the service must continue to evolve. These are challenging, but exciting times for the waste management sector and South Lanarkshire’s Waste services has an excellent opportunity for a professional to join our operations team on a temporary basis.
As the successful candidate, you will organise and control front line refuse collection staff across South Lanarkshire ensuring that all programmed work is achieved within the timescales and that compliance with service and resource objectives are met within the approved expenditure.
You will also devise and manage the rollout of specialist projects, contribute to service planning, oversee the collation of a range performance management data and provide professional opinion on behalf of the service both internally and externally. As a professional, you will actively seek solutions to deliver improvements and involve others in the development of solutions.
Applications are invited from candidates with a comprehensive experience in waste management or environmental compliance. You must have excellent verbal and written communication skills as you will be required to prepare and present reports for senior managers and elected members. A good knowledge of current waste management legislation and policy is required as is a good understanding of Health and Safety. You will ensure that health and safety practices, policies and procedures are applied keeping employees and customers safe and minimising workplace accidents and injuries. A NEBOSH qualification in General Health and safety is desirable but not essential.
