Unlock your passions @ Spring Lodge Vets
Spring Lodge is a wonderful practice located in Witham. We are ideally located, and you could be traveling to the beach for the day or jetting off somewhere more exotic, as we are close to both the coast and Stansted airport. If you fancy a trip into London, our local stations all have direct links to Liverpool Street within 40 mins. Closer to home we have the cities of Chelmsford and Colchester on your doorstop, or if a quieter pace of life appeals a variety of rural villages with very good pubs!
We have a fantastic, friendly team of Vets, Nurses and support staff, that have a wide range of interests, who provide support to each other whilst working within our busy clinic. We have 14 FTE Vets, many of whom either have, or are working towards further qualifications, 18 FTE Nurses, with a high proportion of RVN's, including Surgical Nursing diploma holders. Some of the Nurses are also undertaking additional Nursing qualifications including ECC and Medical Nursing. We are supported by a team of 4 VCA's and a team of dedicated receptionists at each of our six clinics.
We are a close-knit team and have regular social events, not only larger group events but small team get togethers. We have a team board to communicate these in our lunch area and anyone is welcome to join. We have qualified mental health first aiders and wellbeing champions. We aim to work sustainably as possible and have a committed group of individuals striving to make improvements in this area. Our aim is to work collaboratively with a focus on continuous improvement.
We have all the usual kit that you would expect from a hospital standard clinic and undertake in-house orthopaedic procedures, TTA, fracture repairs, advanced soft tissue, alongside laparoscopic spays and other laparoscopic procedures as well as a, rhinoscope, bronchoscope and gastroscope. We have a well-equipped in-house lab, a multitude of monitoring equipment, multiparameters, blood pressure, ecg, tonopens and the like. We have ultrasonography/echocardiography, digital x-ray, laser, dedicated cat and dog wards, O2 kennel and much more!
Step into a supportive start
Your normal hours of work are 40 hours per week, 4 days a week. Due to the particular needs of the business we need to operate a rota system, therefore there are no normal times of work applicable to you and your daily hours, start and finish times will vary from time to time on a rota system. You may be required to participate in a weekend rota and out of hours rota.
All new grads start as a ‘second consult Vet’, where you have your own consult list, with a colleague working alongside you who is specifically on shift to provide support if required. Working directly with another experienced colleague enables you to deal with cases yourself but have someone there to ask advice from if required. For the first few days, we may also pair you with a Nurse or Nursing Assistant for consults. They can assist by holding the patients, help with charging queries, creating estimates etc, to enable you to gain confidence in using our practice systems and become familiar with our standard protocols. As you gain confidence you will have your own consulting list, but you will be given extra time for consults and you will always be on the rota with either your Vet GDP or another experienced team member. As time progresses you will get to experience the branch clinics we have, 4 are stand-alone clinics and 2 are consulting only. We don’t work to a prescriptive schedule on when you undertake new tasks etc, we tailor next steps to a new graduate’s needs and you will not be placed as a sole charge vet until you feel ready. 4 of our clinics have full surgical facilities and you will have dedicated surgical time, again working alongside another vet helping you to gain confidence in undertaking routine and as time progresses, non-routine cases.
