We are recruiting for a Social Impact Specialist to join our London office on a permanent basis.

Department purpose

Our Social Impact initiatives enable individuals and communities to access justice, social finance, education and employment around the world, whilst building the skills and perspectives of our people, strengthening our relationships with our clients and tangibly demonstrating our core values and culture.
Role purpose
The Social Impact Specialist will provide marketing, programme and administrative support to the Community Investment Managers and the Global Charities and Communications Manager. The role will provide support for our Access to Education and Employment programmes, as well as our Global Charity Partnership and the A&O Foundation. As the role develops, there will be the opportunity for the role to create and own new community investment activities to provide volunteering opportunities for colleagues in London.
Role and responsibilities
Development and delivery of education and employment programmes:
  • Research around key issues: identifying opportunities for A&O to contribute to thought leadership and establish new activities, for example around school exclusions.
  • Play a key role in the planning and delivery of flagship programmes, for example Smart Start
  • General administrative support
Volunteering:
  • Leading specific volunteering programmes, relationship management of charity clients, liaison with volunteers, managing invitations, training, maintaining spreadsheets, handling enquiries and producing reports
  • Delivering campaigns such as London Legal Walk, Christmas and Hygiene Appeals
  • Criminal Record Checks: ensure all volunteering requiring an enhanced or standard DBS is completed online
  • Manage volunteering portal
A&O Foundation: Global Grants Programmes
  • Collate applications for assessment, prepare papers for committee meetings including annual reports and take minutes of meetings
  • Respond to enquiries, manage the application and payment processes
  • Responsible for keeping track of impact reporting dates, including communications with grantees
Global Charity Partnership
  • Coordinate the application process
  • Run smaller fundraising initiatives with support from colleagues
  • Support local offices on activities around the GCP, for example, supporting a local charity on the same theme
  • Keeping track of activity to support the GCP, identifying opportunities for engagement
  • Supporting on international visits, including attending in person where appropriate
  • Leading key events, for example iftar, tracking activity and supporting key champions
Marketing and Communications
  • Keep intranet / website up to date
  • Provide marketing support for the team’s major projects, for example writing case studies and articles and manage mailouts / invitations in Vuture
  • Creating visual assets with the design team for use in the team’s internal and external communications, for example digital screens and social media cards
  • Business Development: keep A&O’s marketing database (EPiC) up-to-date with contacts and maintain mailing lists
  • Track interactions with commercial clients and coordinate client requests including creating knowledge bank
  • Track the team’s applications to awards programmes
  • Support the team’s internal and external events, developing relationships with internal teams such as The Bridge, Marketing, AV etc.
  • Managing the global Social Impact awards programme
Key Requirements
  • Suited to an enthusiastic, highly organised candidate with excellent administrative skills and attention to detail
  • Prior experience in an administrative role and working in community investment and/or with charities would be beneficial
  • Volunteer management experience
  • Exceptional knowledge of Word, Excel and Outlook is required
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills/spelling and grammar
  • Effective and efficient with data management and events organisation
  • Motivated, with a strong interested in education, employability and justice issues
  • Flexible and adaptable to working hours
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines and juggle multiple projects
  • Suited to someone who is an excellent team player but can work unsupervised, demonstrating use of own initiative
