Job description

About the role

The Disability Social Care 0-25 Service has an exciting opportunity for a Social Worker to join our specialist Disabled Children’s Social Work Huntingdon Team.

The team provide a high quality and effective social work service responding to the needs of the children and their families in a timely manner and within statutory guidelines. We assess need, plan and deliver focused intervention to safeguard children and promote positive outcomes.

This is a brilliant opportunity to be part of a lively and dynamic team on a full time, permanent basis. We are a strong team who communicate well and support each other to put children at the centre of everything we do. We would love for you to join us and experience this for yourself.

The role is hybrid with a mix of home and office working.  The office is located at the Buttsgrove Centre, Huntingdon and Social Workers are generally expected to be here twice a week after their induction period. We support flexible working requests from day one of employment and so we are open to discussing different working patterns, in line with the needs of the service, to help you bring your best self to work.

For more information about this role please contact Team Manager Nikki Wade on 07818 013490. Alternatively, you can email us on joinus@cambridgeshire.gov.uk or visit our website for more information.

We know that your time is precious, so our interviews will be held virtually, by Microsoft Teams, on 10th or 11th July, to provide the most flexible recruitment process. We will include a virtual assessment as part of this, but we’ll give you all of the relevant information ahead of time.

Appointment to this post will be subject to the outcome of an Enhanced Disclosure obtained through the Disclosure and Barring Service. The Council is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and vulnerable adults and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

What will you be doing?

You will be responsible for managing risk and supporting children and young people assessed as being children in need, at risk of significant harm or for whom the Local Authority is a Corporate Parent. You will manage a complex caseload and achieve positive outcomes for the county’s most vulnerable residents.

In the Disabled Children’s team, we are dedicated to supporting you. We have separated our case and personal supervisions so that we can focus on your development and progression.

We also hold weekly wellbeing catch ups and case discussion huddles so that you can share concerns and experiences.

About you

To be successful in this role you will have an understanding of relevant SEND legislation and policy, along with knowledge of the factors that lead to improved outcomes for children and young people with SEND.

You will be a confident and dynamic individual who enjoys making a difference in their local community. Curious to explore possibilities, you'll spot things that others might not see and enjoy building relationships.

You must:

  • Be a qualified Social Worker with a Social Work England registration
  • Have the ability to work from a variety of locations and travel countywide independently

For a full list of the requirements of the role, please check out the Job Description & Person Specification.
