We currently have Social Worker (Level 1) opportunities available in the following teams:

  • East ADAPT Community Mental Health Team - 17.5 hours per week
  • West ADAPT Community Mental Health Team - 35 hours per week
  • Older Adults Community Mental Health - 35 hours per week

About our teams

ADAPT East and West Teams

The ADAPT teams offer a flexible service to individuals presenting with complex needs (excluding Psychosis or Bi-polar disorder) that currently require secondary mental health care. The pathway provides a range of focused support and therapeutic interventions to working age adults aged 18 to 65. Referrals to ADAPT may come from the Greenwich Mental Health Hub via triage, inpatient wards, crisis teams, Early Intervention in Psychosis team (following clarification of diagnosis), forensic services or as a result of out of area transfers.

Older Adults Community Mental Health Team

The Greenwich Older Adults Mental Health team is a specialist integrated multidisciplinary team for adults over the age of 65 experiencing severe and enduring mental health difficulties or have a dementia diagnosis. The team provides health and social care assessments, support and advice for carers and a variety of interventions to maximise independent living, and to promote mental wellbeing.

The team provide support through care coordination and a programme of short-term psychological groups directed to older people assessed for the service. All professionals work collaboratively with the inpatient unit, crisis, and assessment team, to assess the support that the individual needs in the community, to contribute to the multi-agency panel to consider those who may need a package of care and to discuss safe discharge from hospital.

What we look for:

All Social Workers will be expected to be able to manage a caseload and to work co-productively with service users their families and carers to ensure that a strength based, person centred approach remains at the core of all interventions.

To be part of a multidisciplinary team that consists of Social Workers, occupational therapists, psychiatrists, psychologists, support workers, lived experienced practitioners, community psychiatric nurses and administrative support.

To work with individuals, carers, and families to deliver a range of assessment and care interventions that promote mental health wellbeing and personalised outcomes for people, whilst promoting independence. You will be expected to undertake statutory functions of the social work role (Care Act 2014, Mental Capacity Act 2005, Mental Health Act 1983 (2007), Children Act 1989 (2004) and other related legislation), and respond to requests for those who present with care and support needs:

  • social care assessments
  • carers assessments
  • court of protection
  • safeguarding concerns and enquiries
  • mental capacity assessments
  • mental health assessments

All Social Workers must be willing to train and to undertake the role of an Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP) and to act on behalf of the Royal Borough of Greenwich, dependant on the needs of the service.

  • Access to Social Work, AMHP and Reflective Practice Forums for peer group discussion reflection and supervision
  • A welcome meeting with the Head of Social Care and Mental Health Lead Social Worker to begin to discuss and plan for your continued professional development pathway
  • Access to protected time to undertake the requirements for your Social Work England registration
  • Access to the Royal Borough of Greenwich learning portal, training programmes, reflective workshops, and events
  • Strong partnership working between Royal Borough of Greenwich Health and Adults Services, Integrated Commissioning Board and Oxleas NHS Foundation Trust (named Trust of the Year 2023). This collaboration enables efficient multiagency working towards achieving a joint mission.
  • Introduction, support and mentoring on the Greenwich AMHP pathway towards professional training and AMHP practice.

For these roles you must hold:

  • A registered professional social work qualification
  • Registration with Social Work England
  • This role will require an Enhanced DBS check
