Are you a qualified social worker? Could you Be the difference and be part of a team to drive through our improvements?
In South Tyneside our Children and Families are at the forefront of everything we do. We want every child and family to feel supported in times of need and empowered to make the right decisions. We take pride in our social work teams, where staff are valued and supported and where we work together to drive this vision forward.
We have social work opportunities across our Assessment Teams, Supporting and Strengthening Families Teams (SSF), Cared For Children Teams, Connected Carer Team and Fostering.
We know this work is complex and can be challenging and we want to ensure staff are safe and supported. You will work in a small team where you will benefit from strong guidance and oversight, and access to a management team that is visible and approachable.
As a Newly Qualified Social Worker you will be well supported throughout your first year of practice which is your Assessed and Support Year in Employment (ASYE), you will have very regular supervision and will be allocated a senior practitioner as your mentor, as well as access to a substantial training programme.
We have a good training offer and all practitioners have access to an on line research and resource offer. Our staff tell us they feel listened to, valued and supported, we regularly celebrate good practice and our aspiration is to ensure you will have a caseload of no more than 16 children maximum at any one time.
If you are not yet a progressed social worker you will be supported through our career progression framework, and when ready, complete a progression portfolio, as well as access to post qualifying training, including practice education.
Assessment Teams – The assessment teams are the first people to meet Children and Families and set the tone for a collaborative and supportive relationship. Supporting and Strengthening Families (SSF) – We have 6 small teams who have a manager and a senior practitioner to provide oversight and support. In the SSF teams you will work alongside families and other professionals to identify and build upon strengths, to support families to ensure the care arrangements of their children are safe. For more information please contact Operations Manager: Ravinder.haire@southtyneside.gov.uk

As a social worker in the Connected Care Team, you will be responsible for assessing Kinship carers and Special Guardians during care proceedings and offering ongoing support to approved Kinship carers and Special Guardians, including post permanence support. You will be working collaboratively with your colleagues across the departments and with partners to deliver high-quality and responsive social work to Kinship carers and Special Guardians.
