Description

We are committed to the development of our workforce. This position is only available to applicants who already work for Surrey County Council. We thank you for your interest in our roles and would encourage you to review our vacancies which are open to all.

This role has a starting salary of £27,897 per annum, based on a 36-hour working week. We are excited to be hiring a new intake for our Social Work/Occupational Therapy Trainee Scheme. This is a 3-4 year fixed term opportunity. This scheme is open to all current Surrey County Council employees who have been continuously employed by the Adult Social Care directorate or within the ASC Contact Centre for two years as of the 29th February 2024.

Rewards and Benefits

  • 26 days' holiday (prorated for part time staff), rising to 28 days after 2 years' service and 30 days after 5 years' service
  • Option to buy up to 10 days of additional annual leave
  • An extensive Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) to support health and wellbeing
  • Up to 5 days of carer's leave per year
  • Paternity, adoption and dependents leave
  • A generous local government salary related pension
  • Lifestyle discounts including gym, travel, shopping and many more
  • 2 paid volunteering days plus 1 team volunteering day per year
  • Learning and development hub where you can access a wealth of resources

About the Role

Social Work and Occupational Therapy apprenticeship degrees support people to remain in social care employment while undertaking the degree. This gives trainees an opportunity to learn 'on the job'. As a trainee, you will have a minimum of 20% off-the-job training, which will include attending lectures at university, electronic learning, tutorials, and personal learning. Whilst apprentices will receive some paid study time (up to ten days per academic year), apprentices will be expected to support their own learning and academic work with significant self-study in their own time.

Successful applicants will resign from their current substantive post and enter into a trainee contract with Surrey County Council for the duration of their university course. They will retain SCC terms and conditions and receive a PS6 salary which is currently £27,897 per annum (full-time). In line with other staff, this will include incremental pay rises during the duration of the degree.

If you don't work in a team where there are Social Workers or Occupational Therapists and you want to know more about their roles and responsibilities, please contact the ASC Academy to arrange further information to support your application.

Shortlisting Criteria

To be considered for shortlisting for this position, your application will clearly evidence the following:

  • Maths and English qualifications
  • Valid UK driving license and access to a vehicle
  • Your Team manager's reference alongside the application

Shortlisted applicants will be required to undertake our internal selection process which will include an interview (including presentation) and an online observed group discussion. Successful applicants will be required to undertake the appropriate university selection process.
