Pay Range
$132,810.00 - $170,556.00 Annually for the SES.2 level
$159,330.00 - $204,636.00 Annually for the SES.3 level
Please note that the pay range information is a general guideline only. Many factors are taken into consideration when setting starting pay including education, experience, the external labor market, and internal equity.
Job Description
We have an opening for a Software Developer. You will be a member of the Cloud Center of Excellence where you will design, develop, and support cloud-based applications and services used by the laboratory. As part of the team, you will be contributing to frontend and backend development efforts for applications that help govern and secure our cloud environments. You will play a critical role in enabling the workforce to leverage cloud technologies. This position is in the Information Technology Solutions (ITS) Division within the Computing Directorate, in support of LivIT.
This position will be filled at either level based on knowledge and related experience as assessed by the hiring team. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if hired at the higher level.
You will

  • Contribute and support scalable applications including frontend and backend services.
  • Design and implement clean and elegant user interfaces.
  • Maintain CI/CD pipelines that automate deployment processes, ensure software quality, and maintain security best practices.
  • Engage with laboratory scientists, researchers, and developers to understand their workloads and how they can leverage cloud technologies.
  • Collaborate in a team environment and present, communicate, and explain technical information.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Additional job responsibilities, at the SES.3 level

  • Support architecture design for applications or microservices using best practices and patterns.
  • Design and optimize databases for cost and performance.
  • Provide solutions to multiple complex tasks using agile methodologies.

Qualifications

  • Ability to secure and maintain a U.S. DOE Q-level security clearance which requires U.S. citizenship.
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or related field or the equivalent combination of education and related experience.
  • Broad experience in software development using object-oriented programming (Java/.NET), understanding of SOLID principles and the ability to follow best practices in programming.
  • Broad exposure in UI/UX development using frameworks ,such as, Angular/React/Vue (CSS/HTML/JavaScript/Typescript).
  • Experience with databases (relational or non-relational).
  • Comprehensive knowledge of AWS core services , such as, EC2, S3, Lambda, RDS, SNS, SQS, VPC & CloudWatch, or equivalent Azure services.
  • Understanding of infrastructure as code (IaC), CI/CD tools and source control.
  • Proficient verbal and written communication skills to effectively collaborate with developers, management, and stakeholders.

Additional qualifications at the SES.3 level

  • Advanced experience in software development and leveraging best practice design patterns and event driven architectures.
  • Advanced experience with databases (relational or non-relational).
  • Advanced experience in AWS and managing IAM policies, user authentication/authorization, optimizing workloads for cost and performance, networking, and cybersecurity best practices.

Qualifications We Desire

  • Exceptional relationship building, collaboration and communication skills with a proven ability to interpret customer requests to develop system requirements.
  • AWS or Azure cloud certifications.
  • Experience with Scrum in an agile development environment.

Security Clearance
This position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level clearance. If you are selected, we will initiate a Federal background investigation to determine if you meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information or matter.
