Software Development Manager – Luxury Audio
About the Role:
As Software Development Manager within the Luxury Audio Group, you will be joining our team of world-class engineers and project managers who share an extraordinary passion for designing and creating impeccable sound systems and raising the standards for high-end audio.
In this role, you will have the opportunity to work on new and existing high end audio products across this portfolio with a focus on music streaming and immersive sound technology. You’ll lead and manage our team of SW engineers and test engineers based in Cambridge, UK. You will be responsible for the in-house design, development, coding, testing, and debugging of all software applications, as well as managing all third-party SW development. You’ll work closely with product managers, software architects, hardware engineers, third party partners as well as other developers across the entire product lifecycle from concept to release. You will report to the Director of Global Engineering, HARMAN Luxury Audio. This position will have responsibility for several direct reports.
What You Will Do:
Lead and mentor a team of software developers, providing guidance and support to foster a collaborative and high-performing culture.
Set clear goals and objectives for the Software Development team, ensuring alignment with the Luxury Audio strategy.
Liaise with teams in Northridge, California and Shenzhen to manage modular software components efficiently across various product ranges.
Develop Software Requirements Documents and Specifications for both external and internal teams.
Oversee the planning, execution, and delivery of Software Development projects, ensuring they are completed on time, without bugs and within budget.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including hardware development, product management, and quality assurance, to drive integrated project delivery.
Implement and enforce Software Development best practices, coding standards, and testing procedures to ensure the delivery of high quality, reliable software.
What You Need:
10 years’ experience in a similar role with at least 5 years’ experience managing senior teams.
Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in computer science, software engineering, or related field.
Proven experience as a Software Development Manager or similar role in the audio industry.
Proficiency in programming languages such as C++, Python, JavaScript and experience with relevant Software Development tools including git, Jira, Confluence etc.
Proven track record of successfully delivering complex software projects on time and within budget.
Strong interest in audio and/or a background in consumer electronics.
Nice to Have:
Familiarity with Linux configuration tools such as Yocto.
Familiarity with Wi-Fi, Bluetooth connected products, serial protocols, and Ethernet.
Background in mobile app development for both iOS and Android platforms
JavaScript and basic web technology skills.
Other embedded OS environments e.g., Free RTOS and bare metal on ARM or DSP MCUs.
Audio platforms including codecs and DSP.
RTOS experience e.g., FreeRTOS. Embedded Linux experience.
What Makes You Eligible:
Be willing to travel up to 5%, domestic and international travel.
Be willing to work on-site in our offices in Cambridge, UK at least 3 days per week.
