Why this job matters

As the Software Engineering Manager (Fullstack), your role will involve overseeing the creation, maintenance, and growth of a modern application. This application will play a key role in expanding and integrating across various customer-focused digital experiences. Your work will be used by customers daily and will serve as the foundation for web applications and business systems. Your focus will be on making sure the application is accessible and user-friendly. You'll work closely with Engineering, Product, CFU, Enterprise Architecture, and cross-functional teams to find solutions and develop applications that improve consistency, quality, and market readiness.

You'll also be responsible for creating clear documentation and coding standards and implementing automated workflows when appropriate. Your team's work will adapt to different accessibility and usability requirements, following a gradual improvement approach.You'll supervise the development of Web Apps, APIs, and Integration services within Distributed systems. Your proficiency in JavaScript/TypeScript with React and Node, as well as your ability to use Next.js for Server-Side Rendering (SSR) and Adobe Experience Manager (AEM), will be crucial for delivering high-performance applications.This role offers a significant leadership opportunity, involving managing a team of skilled engineers within a collaborative and innovative environment. Skills

  • Proven experience as a Software Engineering Manager leading a team; at least 9+ years’ experience in similar roles.
  • Deep technical understanding of web development technologies, frameworks, and architectures such as React, Typescript, Style Dictionary and Testing Libraries
  • Ability to identify and mitigate technical risks & proactively address potential roadblocks.
  • Excellent understanding of modern web performance and accessibility challenges
  • Strong knowledge of industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in software engineering, keeping the team up-to-date and encouraging innovation.
  • Applied knowledge of architecting application (E2E) with extensible, sustainable practices
  • Applied knowledge of modern development tooling and automation techniques
  • Confidence in leading code reviews and implementing scalable development processes.
  • Strong experience in accessibility and usability practices
  • Automated testing techniques
  • Familiarity with Git and other version control systems
  • Experience working with complex code bases.
  • Experience working to a tiered model of browser support (e.g., progressive enhancement)
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills and unrivalled attention to detail

Desirable:

  • Hands-on experience in AWS and it’s services.
  • Working knowledge of digital strategy and architectural principles and governance processes.
  • Familiarity with digital channel growth and sales practices along with marketing automation systems.
     

What you’ll be doing

  • Lead and inspire a team of software engineers, providing technical guidance and fostering a culture of continuous learning and growth. 
  • Oversee the development of Frontend and Backend applications using JavaScript/TypeScript, React, Angular and Node, leveraging Next.js for SSR to deliver exceptional user experiences along with Adobe Experience Manager. You will accelerate go-to-market through re-use and streamlining architectural complexities, delivering code and componentry that directly enable key journey transformation and migration programmes.
  • Collaborate with Product Owners (PO) and cross-functional teams to define technical requirements, evaluate technology options, and ensure scalability, performance, and accessibility – all in strong alignment with broader BT architectural principles and be an active contributor to the solution design.
  • Guide the design and implementation of APIs, adhering to best practices and design patterns to ensure seamless integration and data exchange. 
  • Drive DevSecOps practices, embedding security into the development process to ensure the highest levels of application security and reliability. 
  • Collaborate with Infrastructure teams and utilize Pulumi/Terraform for Infrastructure as Code (IaC) to define and deploy cloud resources, ensuring scalability and efficiency. 
  • Foster a culture of code quality and testing, promoting Unit, Integration, and A11y testing (e.g., Jest, React Testing Library, Cypress) to achieve high-quality, maintainable codebases. 
  • Ensure team standards of engineering and operational excellence are upheld, establishing metrics and processes for regular assessment and improvement through the creation and implementation of processes and tools supporting multiple platforms. 
  • Provide mentorship and career development support to team members, identifying areas for growth and facilitating skill enhancement
