At Oxford Instruments Plasma Technology, we provide tools for the engineering of micro- and nano-structures, with customers using our process solutions to research and produce materials and semiconductors vital for everything from medical devices and diagnostics, to electric cars and quantum computers.

We are recruiting for a Software Product Manager for a permanent position based in Severn Beach, Bristol. The main responsibilities will include driving the development and delivery of the roadmap for our software platforms to meet market and business needs, as well as creating, maintaining, owning and driving the software platform roadmap while keeping the business informed of its content. The role will also involve evaluating and prioritizing all proposed initiatives and developments for OIPTs suite of Software Products, either as lifecycle or NPI activities. Additionally, the manager will drive the separation and transition between bespoke customer solutions and integration with the platform roadmap and standard product.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Liaise with other parts of the business in order to deliver those developments within the product release schedule.
  • Determine our outsourcing strategy for software, including the skill development and succession plan for any software kept in-house. Facilitate software outsourcing as required, including the selection of and ongoing strategic arrangement with any external partners
  • Drive our software after-sales revenue by ensuring we develop features that customers value in a manner that is marketable and easily implemented on existing products.
  • Participate in code review for software developments
  • Maintain a professional awareness of industry standards, technical developments, competitor activity and other market trends in your field. Coordinate and collaborate with the other OI businesses.
  • Drive knowledge of your platform and key features within the organisation.
  • Oversee and manage the creation and quality of all software platform documentation.
  • Ownership of cost and margin for software sales.
  • Promote a continuous improvement culture within OIPT by bringing together cross-functional teams, using process improvement techniques, and providing training as needed.
  • Represent the interests of all departments on issues relating to software.
  • Carry out other tasks that might reasonably be requested by the company.

 

Education / Qualifications:

  • Degree Qualified in relevant discipline, Postgraduate preferred.

 

Professional Skills/ Abilities:

  • An ability to quickly understand the necessary technical issues of relevant Semiconductor products.
  • Comfortable and confident dealing with customers to gain market intimacy.
  • Experience in a fast paced software environment.
  • Experience in new product introduction.
  • Experience outsourcing software to subcontracted organisations.
  • Experience in implementing and running a DevOps software methodology successfully in a similar organisation.
