Solar Design Engineer

Astute’s Renewables team is exclusively partnering with a leading renewable energy developer with a commitment to professional development and sustainability to recruit a Solar Design Engineer / Electrical Design Engineer for its Edinburgh office (hybrid working).

The Solar Design Engineer role comes with a salary of up to �60,000, with a 15% bonus, 10% pension, flexible hybrid working and more.

Responsibilities and duties
Reporting to the Engineering Manager you will:

* Lead the design of utility scale solar farms and related infrastructure such as substations and layouts. throughout the entire project life cycle, including conceptual or front-end design, to creating a finalised design that is optimised against the technical specifications, requirements and costing estimates.
* Manage the projects through their respective phases, performing CapEx estimations, technical reports, risk or other analysis such as feasibility studies while ensuring company standards are upheld.
* Support site infrastructure design where needed.
* Work cooperatively with other internal and external teams to provide technical knowledge and advice along with accurate costing or lead time estimates.
* Ensure clear communication is upheld between both technical and commercial teams to ensure projects are ran within set time schedules and budgets.
* Provide technical knowledge and support in aid of tender processes.
* Establish and maintain supplier relationships – communicating with them for costings, lead times or any other information.
* Ensure designs and all other workings are within governmental, industry and company standards, legislation or compliance.

Professional qualifications

We are looking for someone with the following:

* A background in the design of commercial or utility scale Solar Farms, Solar PV projects or products, substations or high voltage equipment is preferred.
* Experience in managing solar projects through the respective phases of conception to delivery, additional experience in overseeing the construction phase would be of strong interest.
* We are also welcoming applications from Electrical Design Engineers who are looking to move into the renewables industry.
* A degree or other qualification in Electrical Engineering or similar field of study.
* Able to use PVSyst, PV Case, Helios 3D, AutoCAD or other, similar software.

Personal skills

The Solar Design Engineer role would suit someone who has;

* Good communication and co-operation skills – able to coordinate engineering teams, external contractors and stakeholders.
* A high attention to detail and able to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
* Willingness to travel – some site visiting may be required across the UK and potentially overseas.
