Cpl is actively recruiting for a qualified and experienced Solicitor to join a key organisation within Northern Irelands energy sector with HQ based in Belfast.

About the role
The successful candidate will work closely with the business as part of a small professional in-house legal services team providing legal advice on a wide range of complex commercial, contractual, corporate, procurement and regulatory matters as well as providing support to the business in delivering business strategy.
You will be responsible for:
- Advising on procurement law requirements, connection agreements, financial security requirements, regulatory frameworks and manage any disputes.
- Drafting and negotiating commercial agreements.
- Instructing external legal advisors and managing relationships with such advisors with a view to maximising value for money and minimising overall risk and cost.
- Analysing and interpreting legal issues and complex documents.
- Identifying legal issues, solutions and efficiencies and keeping the Head of Legal Services and senior management fully informed, including in relation to key issues as they arise.
- Providing effective and solutions driven legal advice, support and guidance to the business, delivering high quality services against demanding timelines presented in accessible language that can be understood by all.
- Participating in legal team initiatives and meetings and proactively adding value to the legal team and business including by presenting to the business in a targeted and commercially focused manner on legal issues.
- Assisting in providing company secretarial services to the Board.
- Any other reasonable tasks as may be requested from time to time.
What you’ll need to succeed
Essential:
- Qualified lawyer with at least two years post qualification experience, preferably within the energy or infrastructure sector or the broader regulatory sector.
- Proven track record of proactively organising and managing high workload and ability to effectively deal with a wide range of complex legal matters across a variety of legal fields demonstrating experience in several of the following areas: Procurement, Commercial Contracts, Regulation, Planning and Environment, Infrastructure Projects and Data Protection.
- Sound commercial and legal judgment and able to provide legal advice in clear and concise terms that is accessible to the recipient.
- Excellent attention to detail with a strong commercial focus and business acumen.
- Team player who can support and be collegiate with others in delivering business strategy and objectives.
- Results driven, highly organised and efficient with an ability to manage multiple priorities and ensure deadlines are consistently met.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to quickly master complex areas of law, technical industry parameters and regulatory requirements.
- A demonstrated ability to work on own initiative.
Desirable:
- Experience of working in the energy sector, in a commercial semi-State body or a similar regulated environment.
- Experience of working in a large complex organisation with multi-disciplinary teams in a fast paced and challenging environment.
- Demonstrated interest in broad issues of climate change and energy.
