Key Responsibilities for the temporary Solicitor role
- Provide specialist input to the Service Director and the Head of Legal Services in the delivery and improvement of its services and business strategies
- Represent the business as and when required in all planning & highway legal proceedings
- Deliver clear, consistent and accurate legal advice to officers, members and clients on all matters relating to planning and highway
- Procure external legal assistance when requested to do so
- Take necessary action under the relevant legislation and case law and ensure appropriate professional standards are maintained in line with accepted good practice
- Manage a busy caseload
- Advice on all aspects of planning, contentious and non-contentious planning matters, including complex section 106 obligations and issues relating to Community Infrastructure Levy, lawful development certificates, planning enforcement, planning appeals, Judicial Reviews.
Advice on highway agreements and licences, traffic management orders, stopping up orders and rights of way matters in a planning context regulatory and related local government law matters (contentious and non-contentious).
Specific Qualifications and Experience for Solicitor role
- Qualified solicitor or barrister or Chartered Legal Executive
- Extensive post qualification experience in the relevant areas of the law
- Up to date knowledge of relevant areas of the law and proceedings
- Demonstrable experience of persuasion and negotiation at a senior level
