Salary:£28,119 up to £37,000 dependent upon experience

Contract Type: Permanent, Full-time

 

We are the UK aerospace regulator and we’re recruiting for new people to join our space regulation team. The Civil Aviation Authority licences launches, spaceports, and satellites and provides ongoing monitoring of activity, including over 750 satellites in orbit. Our work is helping make UK space activity safe, sustainable, and secure for all.

 

The Role

 

Ensuring effective management of data and information across the space team to improve operational decision making by defining, creating, and maintaining datasets to facilitate analysis and insight. Acts as an internal point of contact for requests raised relating to operational performance, safety performance monitoring and risk management activities. Supports external requests from industry, HMG or other interested third parties.

 

Acts as an internal point of contact for requests raised within the space team and, where individual skillset and capacity align, can contribute to the facilitation of analysis and insight generation activities across the wider organisation through working on strategic priorities as part of the Hub & Spoke model.

 

This role is based at the Gatwick office with some travel to other CAA offices and space industry locations, as necessary.

 

The successful candidate will be expected to be in the office at least 1 day per week.

 

Core Accountabilities

 

Responsible for working within the data architecture of the company and ensuring that data is handled in a compliant, safe, and appropriately secure manner. A Data Analyst will collect, define, organise, and study data to provide business insight.

 

The Data Analyst will:

 

  • Apply tools and techniques for data analysis and data visualisation.
  • Identify, collect, and migrate data to and from a range of company-wide systems.
  • Manage, clean, abstract, and aggregate data alongside a range of analytical studies on that data.
  • Manipulate and link different data sets.
  • Identify, analyse, and interpret trends in data sets to deliver business insight.
  • Draw conclusions and recommend an appropriate response.
  • Summarise and present data and conclusions to deliver insightful and accurate information in most appropriate format to a range of business stakeholders – this could include external requests from industry, HMG, or other interested parties.
  • Produce performance dashboards and reports in visualisation and model building phase.
  • Provide meaningful insights by producing regular reports and analysis to different teams through enriching data, adding commentary, etc.
  • Work in collaboration with the hub team to support and respond to business data requests and matters of strategic priority.

 

About You

 

  • Knowledge/Experience of working with complex datasets (particularly text data) and applying analytical approaches to create meaningful metrics and insights.
  • Experience of working with databases would be advantageous as would experience or exposure to data analysis tools/languages.
  • Exposure to data visualisation tools including Power BI.
  • Verbal and written skills and ability to communicate in a clear and concise manner.
  • Modelling of data scenarios.
  • Logical and methodical approach to work with strong attention to detail.
  • Relevant technical qualifications or experience.

Additional Information

 

For many appointments within the CAA, these roles require access to operationally sensitive infrastructure and/or Nationally Protected information. For these roles the post holders must undergo National Security Vetting and achieve the appropriate level of clearance.

 

To be vetted we will usually expect a reasonable period of residency in the UK so that meaningful checks can be undertaken. For this role this will need to be 5 years.
