Job description

We are in search of a skilled and committed Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO) to become a valuable part of one of our partnered schools in Newcastle. In your role as SENCO, you will hold a key position in shaping the educational journey of students with Special Educational Needs and disabilities. Working closely alongside the Director of Specialism in SEND, you will actively contribute to the formulation and execution of effective strategies aimed at supporting the academic and personal growth of our SEND students.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure adherence to all statutory and code of practice requirements pertaining to SEND.
  • Lead and oversee a dedicated team of staff to provide high-quality support and education for SEND students.
  • Cultivate and sustain strong relationships with stakeholders, both internal and external to the school.
  • Supervise the maintenance and periodic review of the school's SEND registers and student records.
  • Act as the school’s representative in various meetings and events, fostering positive collaboration with external agencies.
  • Advocate for inclusive education, facilitating access to a comprehensive and well-rounded curriculum for all SEND students.
  • Promote and disseminate best practices to establish the school as a leading provider of SEND education.
  • Foster a culture of ongoing improvement and cooperation within the SEND department and throughout the school.

Requirements:

  • Appropriate experience in a leadership position within an educational environment, preferably with a focus on SEND.
  • A solid grasp of the legal and regulatory framework surrounding SEND provision.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and manage a team, ensuring the delivery of high-quality teaching and learning experiences for SEND students.
  • Profound knowledge of pedagogical practices and strategies to enhance the academic and personal development of SEND students.
