An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced SENDCO, or someone with significant SEND experience, to join our wonderful team in our Training & Enterprise Centre for people aged 16+ who face varying Special Educational Needs. We are looking for someone who will work closely with the Centre Management Team, Tutors, learners and professionals to develop and initiate strategies to aid in learners progress.

Key responsibilities will include:

· Ensuring that Landau policies and procedures are in line with the latest governmental SEND policies and regulations

· Ensuring that the centre is equipped with adequate equipment and facilities for Special Educational Needs, including wheelchair accessibility and audio-visual learning aids

· Preparing and leading SEND training for Teachers and Teaching Assistants as well as giving regular advice and guidance

· Assessing the specific Educational Needs of learners with learning disabilities and providing recommendations for their support

· Producing regular reports and updates on the educational progress of children to Senior teachers and parents in line with our centre policies and procedures

· Providing referrals for learners to receive support outside of school hours, from Therapists, Medical Specialists, Speech & Language etc

· Work with classroom teachers, the Centre leadership team, Student Support, parents and relevant external agencies to develop, implement and monitor individual support/learning plans

· Oversee the EHCP review process for all learners in your cohort with support from Tutors and HLTAS, including regular monitoring of progress towards outcomes.

· Support teachers to develop and implement effective teaching and learning approaches in the classroom, including reasonable adjustments, support strategies and communication/behaviour management.

· Develop and maintain systems for keeping pupil records, ensuring information is accurate and up to date

· Keep up to date with national and local policies related to SEND and cascade information to colleagues

· To support the safeguarding of a cohort of learners by working with the Student Support team.

· To provide Tutor cover when required.

· Attend regular mandatory training as and when required.

· To be involved in the referral process and recruitment of new learners, including transition and preparation for their start at the centre.

SKILLS AND CORE COMPETENCIES

Technical competency (qualifications and training)

  • Qualified teacher status(QTS) (D)
  • PGCE or Equivalent (D)
  • National award for Special Educational Needs Coordinator (NASENCO) (D)
  • Maths and English at level 2 or above (E)

Experience

  • At least 3 years’ experience as a teacher or tutor (E)
  • At least 2 years’ experience as a SENCO or a SEND Management role (E)
  • At least 5 years of working with learners with SEND (D)
  • Experience of working with learners with emotional needs.(D)

Skills and Attributes

  • A strong commitment to raising educational attainment for children and young people with SEND, including working with pupils directly and supporting other staff to do so
  • Leadership skills - to inspire and motivate other teachers, model good practice, and develop a whole school commitment to supporting pupils with SEND
  • Interpersonal skills - for building relationships with parents, teachers, and external professionals
  • Organisation and time-management skills - needed for prioritising and balancing a busy and varied workload
  • Strong IT skills

Personal qualities, communicating and relating to others

  • Written communication skills - for writing learning and support plans, reports on pupil progress, and training and guidance for staff

Safeguarding

  • To have a good understanding of safeguarding processes and policies
  • To report concerns to the DSL

Hours: 36.5 hours per week

Salary: £28,000-£32,000 per annum

This is a permanent position

Location: Wellington, Telford

As this role involves regular work with children and young people, and meets the definition of regulated activity, it is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974.
