Housing; Inside Housing and Social Housing

Ocean Media Group is the market leader in social housing across award winning B2B print, digital and events streams.  The housing portfolio includes the flagship publication, Inside Housing, which is read by over 15,000 subscribers, and Europe’s largest housing conference, ‘Housing’, which is attended by over 8,000 housing professionals.  Ocean Media’s housing portfolio is the largest and most profitable part of the group, contributing over £8m in revenue annually.  The Client Solutions team are responsible for delivering circa £1m annual revenue across a range of print, digital and face to face platforms, including bespoke campaigns that are at the forefront of digital and content marketing.

Job description:

The Special Projects Editor will manage all Special Projects from start to finish, and will be instrumental is developing new products ensuring that Ocean Media continue to deliver first class experiences for both clients and audience.

As part of the wider client solutions team, the Special Projects Editor will lead the delivery of content, working closely with the marketing and sales teams to deliver all Inside Housing and Social Housing sponsored content, which includes and established range of print, digital and face to face solutions, including Q&A’s, webinars, case studies and round tables. There are also a number of clients with whom we create larger bespoke content campaigns.

This senior role is varied, including producing content, running surveys and bringing together panel sessions, commissioning writers, editing copy, liasing with contacts, clients and colleagues on the production desk, and sales team, and networking at a senior level to secure high level panellists, contributors and judges.

Main responsibilities:

  • Project management and leadership: Overseeing and setting direction for projects. Setting out project plans/timelines, keeping multiple stakeholders on deadline, juggling multiple projects. Managing a contributors budget. Leading colleagues to ensure the projects are a success for clients.
  • Communication and stakeholder management: developing a clear understanding of the needs of readers and stakeholders and/or clients to ensure maximum impact, communicating with clients/contributors regularly, working with colleagues including production, web, marketing, sales and events.
  • Building and maintaining a network of contacts: to build an understanding of readers’ needs and interests, and provide a network of contracts for round table invites, columns etc.
  • Maintaining editorial quality: Writing, commissioning, editing and proofing articles, case studies, round tables, profiles and other copy to meet the high standards of IH/SH and our readers.
  • Creativity: Providing a creative approach to engaging the audience, presenting content online/on social media/in print, and taking a creative approach to problem solving. Working with the editors to develop bespoke projects. Identifying opportunities for improvement and innovation.
  • Commercial awareness: Supporting the sales team during the sales process and afterwards by advocating the benefits of projects, and providing advice and expertise. Spotting trending topics that may provide a hook for new projects that will interest readers and/or sponsors.
  • Representing the magazines: at events and on platforms where required.
  • New product development: developing ideas for new types of content and new clients groups.

  • Excellent writer with the ability to spot compelling stories and turn them into must-read copy

  • Use of use IT packages – word, excel, web content management systems
  • Understanding of project management techniques

Knowledge, Skills, Attitude and Behaviours:

  • A proven track record in event, print and/or digital content
  • Excellent numeracy and literacy.  Written and spoken English as a first language is essential.
  • Strong communication skills – both written and verbal.
  • A natural problem solver, the post holder has both the analytical skills to quickly understand an issue facing the market, and the creativity and initiative to identify a solution.
  • Confident, outgoing personality. Must get on well with people.
  • Must have ‘an eye for detail’ and proven attention to detail.   A track record of checking own and others’ work, and accuracy, is essential.
  • The ability to work both as part of a team and on own initiative will be important to this role.
  • Commercial awareness and business acumen.
