Specialist– Corrosion Protection

Job Purpose
As a member of our R&D team, you will develop, prepare, execute and analyse research elements in Corrosion Protection coatings and solutions. You will gain insights into new developments and improve existing research methodology in line with our R&D strategy. You could be involved in developing new coating concepts, characterisation, testing and evaluation approaches, sharing knowledge with internal and external stakeholders as well as developing a fundamental understanding of Corrosion Protection performance attributes, formulation component interactions and principal degradation modes.
- Develop, prepare & execute fundamental research activities with a commitment to quality in execution and reporting.
- Timely and effective delivery across assigned research projects/activities and support work requests.
- Proactively seek & implement new analytical techniques & methodologies to support research agenda.
- Act as a consultant & provide guidance/coaching to colleagues.
- Use your knowledge to propose and develop technically feasible solutions that meet customer needs.
- Contribute to idea generation & encourage idea generation in others.
- Proactively develop relationships with academic groups and individual researchers.
- A practicing laboratory scientist with a degree or greater in chemistry or polymer science is preferred but a broader materials science or corrosion specific background will also be considered.
- Experience in coatings research, or equivalent relevant R&D experience.
- Proficiency in scientific and intellectual property information retrieval systems
- Able to nurture & motivate colleagues.
- Excellent communication & interpersonal skills.
- Enjoys a collaborative working environment where supporting colleagues across business functions is key.
- Proficient practical and theoretical chemist with additional experience in polymer applications or materials science.
- Experience with coatings, composites or adhesive technologies, especially epoxies and polyurethanes.
- An understanding of corrosion processes and Corrosion Protection strategies.
- Experience with DoE and statistical concepts for data interpretation.
