Job description

An opportunity has arisen for a Dietitian to join a highly experienced multi-professional health team working with people with learning disabilities in Oldham.
We are looking for a dynamic and highly motivated Dietitian to support people with a Learning Disability who live in Oldham. The post holder will be responsible for a caseload of patients with various ranges of Learning Disability. You will work as part of the Learning Disability Team to plan effective, tailored advice to patients, parents and carers. This may involve working alone or sometimes with others. There will also be a caseload of Home Enteral Feeds you will be responsible for. The successful applicant will work under the supervision of the lead Dietitian, with regular training, support and supervision provided.
Act as an independent specialist practitioner and be professionally and legally accountable and responsible for all aspects of own work, including a clinical caseload.
Work independently to undertake nutritional assessments and calculate nutritional requirements of patients using anthropometry, whilst also taking into account medical, social and cultural factors.
Communicate evidence based nutritional and dietary advice in an understandable form.
To be jointly responsible with others, to develop dietetic services that will lead to opportunities to improve the health of patients with a Learning Disability.
To act as an autonomous practitioner to provide expert nutritional advice. This might involve seeking advice from peers within, and if appropriate, outside of The Trust.

Clinical responsibilities

Prioritise your workload to plan your day-to-day provision of dietetic support to your caseload.
Ensure your own dietetic knowledge is up to date and you are proactive at keeping abreast of current developments in your specialist area.
To act as an autonomous practitioner to provide expert nutritional advice. This might involve seeking advice from peers within, and if appropriate, outside of The Trust.
Managerial and Administration
Decide daily on priorities for own work area balancing patient related and professional demands.
Contribute to team meetings and project developments.
Complete and identify projects and meet deadlines.
Record patient activity data and communicate with other health care professionals, parents and carers.
Share the responsibility for maintaining dietetic resource files.
Education and Training
Contribute to the training of pre-registration dietetic students and Learning Disability students on clinical placement including clinical work, tutorials, feedback and assessment when requested.
Plan, deliver and evaluate formal and informal training to defined groups, including other health care professionals, staff and patients
Develop educational resources, which are evidence based and acceptable to patients and carers.
Undertake group education sessions with patients, carers and staff on food and nutrition.
Clinical Governance
Work within the Health and Care Professions Council, Standards of Conduct, Performance and Ethics and Standards of Proficiency.
Observe strict confidentiality with regards to patient data and any information in line with the Data Protection Act.
Attend trust induction training and mandatory training programmes.
Identify personal training needs through participation in
Continuous Professional Development activities and Individual
Performance Development Reviews.
Maintain a personal portfolio as evidence of competence to practice.
Contribute to defined audit projects as part of clinical practice.
Contribute to the development of evidence based treatment policies, protocols, standards and guidelines
