Job description

Act as lead specialist and expert resource in the defined area of midwifery practice related to women with Complex Care problems to include substance misuse; teenage pregnancy; domestic abuse; asylum seekers; non-English speaking women; homelessness and safeguarding concerns. Provide expert skills and effective clinical leadership in acting as a role model for all staff. Take the lead in the development of clear pathways of care between and within a range of services, including primary care, secondary care, specialist services and non-statutory services. Facilitate the further development of evidence-based protocols to ensure best practice in caring for vulnerable women with complex issues. To provide specialist education and training to other staff and learners. Maintain clinical midwifery skills in line with best practice to deliver a safe and effective service. To formulate care plans and provide care in conjunctions with the woman, medical team, and other agencies. Co-ordinate holistic care to women and families affected by Complex Care issues. The practitioner may be expected to take part in the on-call rota for the unit. Foster close working relationships with all agencies including health, education, police, and childrens social care to develop support and care for vulnerable families. Ensure the effective sharing of relevant information with other professional working with individual children and families. Ensure adherence to Local Area Safeguarding Board Policies and the 1989 Childrens Act. This includes providing input and expert advice for pre-birth assessment and core team reviews. Attend local and national forums pertaining to vulnerable women. To promote interaction with multi-professional agencies and sharing of good practice and disseminate feedback from these forums. To have a thorough understanding and knowledge of national and local safeguarding procedures / escalation with respect to safeguarding both adult and children. To have knowledge and understanding of the national and local public health agenda.
