Job description

You will work with the team Consultant(s) colleagues to provide clinical leadership. You will attend handover meetings where the tasks of the day will be decided and work allocated. You will contribute to the assessments of both general adults and older adults when required. You will liaise with CAMHS psychiatrists as required when patients under 18 years old are conveyed to the service. You will cross cover with other medical colleagues for annual leave when required. You will maintain excellent records. You will provide informal support to junior medical colleagues. You will assist in ensuring an appropriate program of activity for any medical students attached to your team. You will liaise with clinical teams in the Trust and neighbouring boroughs to ensure the provision and continuity of ongoing care of patients as required. You will work with inpatient ward teams; community recovery, other general adult community mental health teams and local crisis teams ; care of the elderly community team colleagues and social services colleagues to ensure that appropriate follow-up care is organized for all patients who move on from the HBPOS following completion of their assessment. You will be Section 12(2) approved and will assess patients under the Mental Health Act, as required. You will inform the clinical lead for the Acute Division of any concerns you have regarding the clinical care available to patients, and contribute to audit and quality improvement projects within the Trust. You will attend relevant team management meetings and the Trust Liaison/Crisis team seniors meeting whenever required, along with other senior clinicians and managers. You will assist in providing overall day to day medical leadership for the team and provide additional cover when either of the team consultants is on leave. Referral review and allocation for assessment is led by the team manager, occasionally in discussion with the team and the team Consultants. Assessments are allocated to team members as appropriate and taking into consideration patient complexity/clinician experience etc as well as referral demand and staff resource on the day. This is all managed by the team manager. You may also be expected to attend (in rotation) the monthly Acute Division senior Liaison clinicians meeting to facilitate smooth relations between these services and the interface between HBPOS and the Emergency Department Mental Health Liaison Teams.
