Rochester, Kent | Full Time

Reporting To: Technical Manager


Job Purpose:

As a Specifications Technologist, you will be responsible for the management of both production and finished product specifications to ensure our specifications are fully compliant to requirements. You will also participate on NPD activities when required.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintaining and managing all current specifications in several specification systems.

  • Creating new specifications right the first time within tight deadlines.

  • Acting as key contact in managing specifications discussions with internal and external stakeholders when required.

  • Working with the Procurement/Audit departments to ensure all raw materials conform to finish product requirements and to be familiar with raw materials specifications as they are required in the specification systems.

  • Managing the finished product approval process and liaise with New Product Development, Process, Factory, Quality and Regulatory teams across our factories.

  • Managing Trackers to monitor specification status.

  • Deliver specifications/systems training and support to end users.

  • Exploring opportunities for specification data quality and business process improvements.

  • Supporting operation teams in migrating existing Finished Product Specifications to Production.

  • Any other reasonable duties, responsibility or requests that may be issued by management from time to time.

Skills, Knowledge and Experience:

  • Proven experience in a similar role in the FMCG industry.

  • Previous experience working with various specification software systems for major retailers in the UK (preferably Tesco, M&S, Sainsbury’s).

  • Knowledge of food labelling legislation for the UK, EU and international markets would be beneficial.

  • Educated to a degree level or equivalent in a Food Science/Food Technology/Quality Management/Chemistry/Nutrition or related scientific subject would be desirable.

  • Advanced Excel skills and a good knowledge of all other Microsoft products.

  • High attention to detail.

  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.

  • Enthusiastic to enhance knowledge and progress.

  • Able to keep calm under pressure and prioritise effectively.

  • Monday - Friday (Based on site)
