Sports Teaching Assistant

Teaching Personnel are seeking to recruit a number of Teaching Assistants with an interest in Sports/Physical Education to join a Newport secondary school for next academic year!  This role is to start in September 2024, and will be for the academic year until August 2025.

Working hours are 8:30-15:30 (Mon – Fri  - term time only).  Salay ranges from £85 to £100 per day, depending on experience and qualifications!

The school are seeking full time applicants, but part time will also be considered if you can commit to a job share working at least 2 days a week.

The school are seeking Teaching Assistants with Sports backgrounds to help engage pupils aged 11-16 with behavioural and additional learning needs.   The use of sport is a great way to help encourage pupils that are disengaged with learning to enjoy school life and access education!

We have found that candidates with sports backgrounds make excellent Teaching Assistants largely because of their rapport with young people and their positive behaviour management skills.

The ability to build rapport with young people is extremely important for this role!

Responsibilities:

In this role you will be the perfect role model for pupils who are disengaged with their studies. We are recruiting an individual to work closely with those who have challenging behaviours and social/emotional difficulties. This role will be challenging but highly rewarding seeing the difference you are making to these young people’s lives.

Your role as a Teaching Assistant will be a mixture of in class support, and sports coaching sessions.

The school you will be joining is a secondary school in Newport, which has fantastic sports facilities.  There are a number of grass pitches, certified FIFA quality floodlit 3G pitches,tennis courts, basketball courts, netball courts and the indoor sports hall and dance studio!

Requirements:

  • DBS and EWC registration - Teaching Personnel will help you apply for these during the registration process.
  • Passion for making an impact on the lives of children.
  • Background in Sport, ALN, or Education
  • Strong behaviour management and communication skills.
  • Ability to build trusting relationships with pupils.
  • Patience, composure, and team spirit.
