Job description

Staff Nurse - Paediatrics - Band 5

We are seeking Paediatric Nurses to join the Children's Department at the Royal United Hospitals Bath. We welcome applications from experienced Paediatric Nurses, newly qualified nurses and student nurses qualifying in 2024.

We're also interested to hear from Paediatric Nurses who have a special interest in mental health nursing and Adult Nurses looking to move into a Paediatric Nurse role.

In 2024 you’ll be joining us at an exciting time as we develop our services to care for children with a wide range of medical and surgical conditions from 0-18 years. You will deliver care to some of the most vulnerable patients including newly diagnosed diabetics, oncology patients and those in our high dependency area.

If you’re a newly qualified nurse who wants to work for a Trust that invests in developing your skills and practice – this is the perfect place to begin your career. You’ll work across all areas within the department and will have the support from a dedicated, exceptional team of practitioners.

Alice, Paediatric Nurse said: “Working on the Paediatric Assessment Unit (PAU) and looking after both surgical and medical patients on the ward who have different conditions has been really beneficial to me in gaining knowledge and experience. The RUH has a friendly feel and the staff on the ward are lovely.”

Join our team as an experienced Paediatric Nurse and we can offer you access to learning and development opportunities to support your professional development so you can take on new roles and challenges.

Other benefits we can offer are part time hours and flexible working as we operate a team-based self-roster so you have more control over the pattern of your working week. Interested?  Apply now, we look forward to hearing from you.

Main duties of the job

  • Acting as a Named Nurse, to maintain accountability for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating programmes of care within the framework of team nursing.
  • To co-ordinate the patients’ discharge arrangements in accordance with the RUH Discharge Policy.
  • To promote a patient focused approach to care in collaboration with all relevant health professionals.
  • To educate patients and their carers as required where a need has been identified.
  • To provide information which enables patients to make choices about adopting a healthy lifestyle

Professional Development and Education Responsibilities

  • To develop own teaching skills and participate in staff/student
    education programmes.
  • To help maintain a suitable learning environment for staff and act as a facilitator in the supervision and teaching of less experienced staff.

Audit, Quality and Risk Management Responsibilities

  • To contribute to the setting and monitoring of measurable standards of care and be accountable for maintaining standards.
  • To maintain awareness of the national, professional and local
quality issues relevant to the delivery of nursing services, e.g.
    Clinical Governance.
  • To uphold quality initiatives that improve ‘customer care’ and enhance the interface between staff, patients and visitors.

Resource Management Responsibilities

  • To develop and maintain an awareness of budgeting, exercising care and economy in the ordering and use of equipment.

Working for our organisation

At the RUH we’re proud to put people at the heart of what we do, working together as one team to make a difference for our patients, each other, and our community. We are committed to creating a compassionate and inclusive environment. We value staff wellbeing, with a well-established programme of support. We believe in a holistic approach spanning all aspects of living a healthy life, including physical, emotional, spiritual and financial wellbeing. We’ve even got a pool!
