As a Staff Nurse in the pre-op service your duties will include:
- Phlebotomy/ECG/Observations
- Complete thorough and comprehensive pre-op assessments
- Complete telephone triage's and determine if patients need to be seen face to face or not
- Escalate issues to the surgeons and facilitate solutions before the patient is due for admission.
- Provide support and guidance to the pre-op HCA
- Provide holistic, patient centered care
- Review wounds in post-op clinics, redress them according to the surgeons wound care plan.
- Liaise with patients via telephone before minor procedures, provide them with advice and information on their procedure and expected recovery.
- Escalate logistical issues to the ward prior to admission
- Manage a robust COVID swabbing process and ensure patients understand the importance.
- Assist the Pre-op Sister in the organisation of appointments and paperwork.
- Complete audits of the service and contact patients for feedback under the guidance of the pre-op Sister.
- Ensure patients having major bowel surgery have seen the stoma nurse
What you'll bring:
- Registered Nurse Level 1 NMC Registration
- Pre-operative experience within Oncology Desirable .
- Surgical experience essential
- Knowledge of relevant hospital policies and procedures
- ECG Skills
- Phlebotomy trained
- Computer Literate
- Wound care/dressing check knowledge
