Job description

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is one of the largest healthcare systems in the UK employing around 40,000 staff in a wide range of clinical and non-clinical professions and job roles. We deliver acute hospital, primary, community and mental health care services to a population of over 1.15 million and a wider population of 2.2 million when our regional and national services are included.

Mixture of full-time + part-time hours available ie 37.5/34.65/23.10hrs. You will be required to work a fully rotational shift pattern of 12 hour day and night shifts over a 7 day period, including both weekends and bank holidays.

Please note the salary is Pro Rata for part time hours.

In order to apply for this position, you must have a Live PIN with the NMC UK.

Please note No New Qualified Practitioner for 2024 will be considered for this role.

Exciting opportunities have arisen for a Registered Nurse (Band 5) to join our team within Department of Medicine for the Elderly, Acute Assessment Wards at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital. Our Wards consists of 28 or 30 in-patient beds and most of the patients are admitted to us predominantly from acute receiving areas, however we also take step down patients from High Dependency. The patients we care for can be acutely unwell on admission. Every area of nursing is demanding but managing the acutely unwell older adult represents one of healthcare’s most challenging but rewarding disciplines. The successful candidate will deal with a wide range of conditions including both dementia and delirium, therefore an ability to be caring, compassionate and display excellent communication is vital to this role. The ward is fast paced with a high turnover. Once the patients are stabilised they are generally transferred to a rehabilitation unit either here at the QEUH or off site and if well enough discharged home. Nurses must demonstrate an awareness of the common elements of Discharge planning and the policies surrounding it. The importance of transferring knowledge and skills from theory to practice is paramount in the delivery of high quality patient care, therefore we will support you with personal development and ensure you receive appropriate training to undertake extended roles e.g. cannulation, phlebotomy and Intravenous drug administration.
