Laboratory Operations Manager

As a Laboratory Operations Manager/Stage Manager, you are responsible to plan, measure, manage and improve the process stage to ensure the business metrics for safety, quality, efficiency, and supply are achieved. The Stage Manager role is a challenging but interesting one, where will be working in fast paced and dynamic environment. Driving production higher is a current high priority on site and therefore identifying CI opportunities and improved processes is an important part of this role.

In this role you will…

  • Manage the Site Microbiology Team in the provision of Quality Control, Microbiological and Process Support Services across site.(add)
  • Ensure the required ways of working for the operation are optimal, defined and understood such that the operational targets are met.
  • Ensure changes proposed to plant and processes are suitable for and implemented into operations successfully. This will involve liaison with other groups especially technical, quality and engineering to ensure improvement activities, CAPA and routine operation actions are appropriate.  This will include preparing capital investment proposals and some elements of project programme management.
  • Be operations owner of the short-term plan, ensuring it is achievable and adhered to. 
  • Work with shift leaders, engineering, technical and quality to ensure equipment, process and compliance issues are addressed appropriately.  This will include leading and driving investigations, root cause sessions and action completion.
  • Have operational ownership for yield and material usage performance and improvements.
  • Coach and develop others within Operations to improve their capabilities and performance.
  • Drive continuous improvement across your stage

  • Demonstrable technical competence, either via degree or significant process experience
  • Understanding of compliance requirements
  • Previous management/supervisory experience
  • Site capital process and knowledge of PIP justification
  • Experience working in front line operations environment
  • Regulatory audit experience

Preferred Qualifications & Skills:

Please note the following skills are not necessary, just preferred, if you do not have them, please still apply:

  • Competence in process tracking techniques – such as process explorer
  • Knowledge of permit to work system/ Permit to work issuer trained
  • Continuous Improvement (CI) training, use of root cause, process aligned management, other GSK Production System (GPS) tools
  • Process safety training
  • IOSH trained or equivalent
  • Good level of financial understanding
  • Change management experience
